Notre Dame football is back this week, Wednesday is the first day of spring practice. It seems like forever since we last saw the Irish on the football field, but it was just less than 3 months ago.

Weeks ago, Mike Brey made it clear that he was done at Notre Dame but that he wasn’t done coaching. Would that mean coaching back home in the Washington, D.C. area? Would it be on at a high school? Would he be a consultant for some of his friends in the coaching world?
We have an answer as reports surfaced Monday that Brey will be the next head coach at South Florida. This makes a lot of sense not only because Brey previously mentioned he wasn’t interested in Midwest winters any longer. Furthermore, Brey’s son is a football coach at IMG Academy that isn’t far at a ..read more

When Illinois 5-star defensive tackle Justin Scott announced that he would make his college decision at the end of January, many believed that Notre Dame would be the pick.
Scott ended up put off his announcement, as he wanted to rethink his choice. The Irish took that in stride and continued to recruit the impressive player. It has paid off, as today Scott went to twitter and let everyone know that he will be back in South Bend this coming Saturday for a visit.
With spring practice starting on Wednesday, it makes plenty of sense for Scott to want to visit with second-year head coach ..read more

Mike Brey apparently didn’t have to wait long to pick up his next coaching gig. BullsInsider.com is reporting that the winningest coach in Notre Dame history is about to take the head coaching job at USF. No official announcement has been made, but all signs seem to be pointing in that direction.
This would be a perfect destination for Brey, who previously indicated that he would sell his home in South Bend and move to Florida once his final season with the Irish was over. As it turns out, he’ll be able to have his cake and eat it, too. He will try to revive a program that has had only one win ..read more

There were a couple of solid games from Notre Dame’s NBA representation, but they both came in losses. For Pat Connaughton, his performance was in the Milwaukee Bucks’ only loss of the week. He had 10 points, six rebounds and tied his season high of three steals in a March 16 start against the Indiana Pacers. Over four games, he averaged 7.0 points and 3.3 rebounds a game while shooting 43.5% from the field.
With the San Antonio Spurs officially eliminated from playoff contention, this is a perfect opportunity for Blake Wesley to provide some solid minutes in the final weeks of his rookie seas ..read more

SOUTH BEND – Notre Dame is heading to the Sweet 16 after beating Mississippi State, 53-48. That’s where it will have a chance to avenge a loss to Maryland from earlier this season. The only problem is Olivia Miles and Dara Mabrey won’t play, so that will make it tougher. Then again, that’s the drama the NCAA Tournament provides.
This year’s Irish got one final opportunity to play in front the crowd that has create a warm atmosphere at Purcell Pavilion all season. They did not disappoint, even as the game got a little too close for comfort in the fourth quarter. It was a memory no one who was t ..read more

SOUTH BEND – Although Notre Dame found itself in a battle with Mississippi State, it gladly will take a 53-48 win. The second-round victory means a trip to the Sweet 16, specifically Greenville Regional 1. One more win, and the Irish could face top-ranked and undefeated South Carolina in the Elite Eight. But for now, it’s all about the happy things.
Niele Ivey is glad that her team was able to get this far after many had doubts because a roster shortened by injuries. Lauren Ebo is basking in the aftermath of 10 points, five blocks and an Irish-tournament record 18 rebounds. Maddy Westbeld like ..read more

It seemed like a very good match when Virginia safety Brandyn Hillman committed then signed with Notre Dame.
Just last week Hillman announced that he was released from his national letter of intent, with many believing it was due to not having the grades to enroll in South Bend.
Plenty of teams showed interest and Hillman took a visit to Michigan this weekend and left as a commit to the Wolverines. It’s a bit interesting if academics was the case, as UM is considered a high-level educational school as well. Either way, Hillman will never wear the Blue and Gold.

SOUTH BEND – No one said every NCAA Tournament game needs to look pretty. All that matters is whether you are ahead when the clock hits zero. As frustrating as it might have been at times, Notre Dame was ahead at the end of its second-round game against Mississippi State, 53-48. With two wins at Purcell Pavilion in the bag, the Irish will move onto Greenville Regional 1.
Neither the Irish (27-5) nor the Bulldogs (22-11) shot particularly well in this game. They finished with respective field-goal percentages of 34.7% and 29.5%. So naturally, this contest came down to the fourth quarter.
