Utilising EPM Platform Jobs in Pipelines
Keeping up with Hyperion

Pipelines allow administrators to schedule jobs in the required order, including pre-processing rules, data load rules and post-processing rules in an easy and accessible interface via Data Integration. This is replacing the existing Batch functionality which is currently available in Data Management, but will soon be decommissioned. Each pipeline is made up of a series of Stages, where a Stage is a group of jobs. There are many job types available, including business rules, integrations, EPM Platform jobs and many more! Each job has various settings depending on the job type. These settings c ..read more

Setting user variable default values using Groovy
Keeping up with Hyperion
by Lydia Maksoud

Groovy is a standard scripting language which is available in EPM applications to allow dynamic customisation in multiple contexts around the system. The availability of groovy is dependent on the EPM licensing; groovy scripting is available for EPM Enterprise applications only. As with all coding languages, use of the documentation is key and Oracle have provided a brilliant scripting reference which can be found here: https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/saas/applications-common/22b/cgsac/groovy-basics.html In this blog we will focus on setting user variable values using groovy. In the past, when data load jobs needed to be scheduled in EPM, there were two main options; Batches or EPM Automate scripts. Now however, there is a third option of the new Pipeline functionality which was released as part of the new Data Integration interface in June 2023. Pipelines are set to replace the existing Batch functionality currently available in Data Management, that will soon be decommissioned by Oracle. While it’s always exciting when Oracle release new functionality, it can be hard to keep up sometimes – this switch however is one that is definitely worth the effort! This blog ..read more

Latest EPM Features: Out with the old & in with the new!
Keeping up with Hyperion

As we all know, Oracle release new functionality every month as part of their monthly EPM patches, however what you may not know is that some of the old functionality will no longer be available soon and only the new features will be supported and enhanced going forward. While all these new features are exciting, sometimes it can be hard to keep up with the latest features alongside maintaining your existing application, which we totally understand. That’s why we recommend taking a pause to review the following areas in your system to ensure you’re utilising the latest functionality and not re ..read more

When loading GL balances from Oracle Cloud ERP to Account Reconciliation Cloud (ARCS), there are a few differences to the standard process used when loading to FCC and EPM Planning. This blog will detail the full setup process required when loading GL balances to ARCS for reconciliation compliance. Before setting up the GL balances load from Oracle Cloud ERP to ARCS, there are a couple of prerequisite tasks required, which are part of the standard ARCS setup. Firstly, ensure the correct Segments and Sub-Segments have been specified in the Configuration -> System Attributesarea. This is a fu ..read more

System Maintenance Tasks: Maintain Setup Data
Keeping up with Hyperion
by Lydia Maksoud

As well as staging table data, Data Management/FDMEE stores various setup components in SQL tables behind the scenes. We do not have direct access to these tables in PBCS, however there are a number of ‘System Maintenance Tasks’ within data management which can be used to update and maintain these hidden tables. This blog will focus on the ‘Maintain Setup Data’ task only. Maintain Setup Data This task is useful to clean up the setup component tables, including clearing invalid import formats, data load rules or locations from data management. Occasionally, “phantom” artefacts seem to get ..read more

Loading Metadata using PBCS Data Management
Keeping up with Hyperion

After much anticipation, the ability to load metadata from a flat file into (e)PBCS is now supported using the inbuilt data loading ETL tool Data Management.  Along with loading new members, this functionality also allows updates to properties of existing members. Members can be added or updated for all dimension types, including Smart Lists.  This blog will detail how to load new metadata to a Custom type dimension, called Grade, to a PBCS application named WFP. Creating the Target To set up a metadata load, first open the Data Management window from PBCS and navigate to the Tar ..read more

Executing Smart View Retrievals using VBA
Keeping up with Hyperion

When working with Hyperion systems, Smart View is a key tool used for reporting, as well as inputting data. It provides a valuable link between Hyperion and Excel, which allows users to retrieve data from the database straight into Excel with ease. Smart View functions are available through the Smart View toolbar and can be used with Essbase, HFM, Planning or Cloud connections. Occasionally, it is necessary to perform Smart View functions behind the scenes using VBA code, rather than manually using the Smart View toolbar. For example, a spreadsheet which will refresh all the Essbase retriev ..read more

As part of the October PBCS update, Oracle have re-introduced the ability to keep an audit of changes to your PBCS artefacts. This update is due to be applied to PBCS Test environments on Friday 6th October and to Production environments on Friday 20th October. The Audit tab was briefly removed to avoid confusion over access to the database tables, but after some re-work the functionality is back! To access the auditing section, open the ‘Application’ bundle and select the yellow ‘Audit’ icon: Note: If you are not using the default navigation flow, you may need to manually add the new Audi ..read more
