By Kelsey N. DeClark, USCCA Certified Instructor, Certified Range Safety Officer Women’s Programs Director and Owner of COMMAND PERFORMANCE FIREARMS AND TRAINING LLC We are proud to offer our WOMEN’S SELF-DEFENSE HANDGUN FUNDAMENTALS Class as part of our regular course offerings.  Many ask, “how is it different from our regular class?” Probably the best way to answer that question is by first looking at who takes the class and pondering… Why would somebody prefer a women’s only class? Why are there women who would not take a class if it was co-ed? What is their usual level of experience ..read more

UPDATE: PERMITLESS CARRY IS NOW FLORIDA LAW (effective July 1, 2023)

As the legislation that would make Florida the 26th State to legalize some form of “permitless carry” worked its way through the Florida legislature, I wrote an Article describing it’s specifications and effects. (see What’s this talk about Constitutional Carry? – Command Performance Firearms and Security Training ) On April 3, 2023, Gov. DeSantis signed the legislation into law. The law itself is 106 pages (that’s what happens when a bunch of attorneys are locked in a room together). It can rather simply be broken down into several points. Once again, it is NOT Constitutional Carry! Anybody w ..read more

What’s this talk about Constitutional Carry?

Many Floridians (and others) have heard that there is a bill in the Florida House establishing Constitutional Carry.  That is partly true… read on. “Constitutional Carry,” based on the 2nd Amendment concept of “shall not be infringed,” means that the government, well, shall not infringe.   The Florida bill does not claim to not infringe. In fact, it leaves untouched a very central concept that fully 47 States have adopted already, which is open (ie, unconcealed) carry. Florida is way behind the curve with this and it is hoped by many that an anxious gun-owner population in FL wi ..read more

Brief Overview of Semi-Automatics

I’m Paul DeClark. I’m the Chief Instructor with Command Performance Firearms and Training in Venice FL…. We talked about revolvers in another video, so let’s talk about the other major type of self-defense handgun. Some people call them pistols. They are SEMI- automatic, not FULLY automatic, sometimes called machine guns. This means that, just like a revolver, when you pull the trigger once, you get one shot fired. There is a lot of variety, and the offerings are expanding almost every day, but let’s break it down. First, let’s talk about traditional (hammer-fired) double-action semi’s. “Actio ..read more

Brief Overview of Revolvers

I’m Paul DeClark. I’m the Chief Instructor with Command Performance Firearms and Training in Venice FL…. And here’s a quick overview of revolvers. Maybe you know nothing about handguns, and are already lost, or maybe you’ve been shooting for a while and you still might be able pick up a pointer or two… In another session we discuss semi-automatics. They are a whole different functioning mechanism. The fundamental difference is that, in a revolver, the ammunition stays in place throughout the entire firing cycle. In a semi-automatic, the ammo travels through the gun and the empty case is expell ..read more

IS CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY DEAD IN FLORIDA FOR 2022?
Command Performance Firearms Training Blog

A definite maybe… Let’s define Constitutional Carry. CC (that will save me some typing!) means that no permit is required to carry a gun in public. (Some call it “permitless carry.”) NO permit — hence the term “Constitutional.” Remember “shall not be infringed”? Believe it or not, but as of this date 23 states have passed CC into law, the latest of which will take effect in Ohio on Jan. 1, 2023. The laws vary, and some are limited to only state citizens. But this is the trend nationwide despite, and maybe why you see, the big Leftist push against gun rights. But Florida’s legislative session c ..read more

Your Gun — Tactical Tool or Talisman?
Command Performance Firearms Training Blog
by Paul DeClark

As a Certified Firearms Instructor for 31 years and running, I can tell you that some things never change. One is that the majority of gun owners believe that the mere ownership of their gun will ward off the goblins that might come calling, as if training their attitude, mental preparedness and skills has nothing to do with winning. Is your gun a tactical tool or talisman — a rabbit’s foot — a good luck charm? Gun ownership is skyrocketing… and why not? Our Federal Government seems to have a penchant for causing chaos here and abroad, while trying every legal (and sometimes illegal) tactic to ..read more

New Year’s Resolutions for Carry Permit Holders

I’m not too big on New Year’s Resolutions, as I work goals year round, but here are a few ideas I hope you will find useful as reminders throughout the year. These ideas are relevant to all. Note that in Florida we are referring to the Concealed Weapons License. Other states have different names for them with differing laws. Some other states are (permitless) Consititutional Carry. Florida is one of four states that allows only concealed carry, and open carry is a practice that I do not recommend anyway. Remember the first rule of gunfighting — have a gun. The gun on your hip or in your conce ..read more

“Follow-Home” Robberies

The term “‘follow-home’ robberies” may not be that familiar to you, but the words themselves suggest a vulnerability that is usually reserved for TV drama. Holiday shopping is a vulnerable time, but it is not limited to the holiday shopping season. We know what a “home-invasion” robbery is, when one or more (usually more) people break in or more commonly force their way in when the door is answered. These are very dangerous situations, obviously. We are also familiar with various types of robbery that can occur at a store or in a parking lot, typically the “grab-and-go” type or sometimes robbe ..read more

September 11, 2021 — HOW CAN YOU STAY SAFE?

On September 11. 2021, the same group of misfits are running Afghanistan as were running it on September 11, 2001. We all are acutely aware of the masssive and far-reaching blunders (or treason?) of this Administration. One of the key ones is that we as a country and as individuals are much less safe anywhere in the world, including our own country. So this is probably the least safe 9/11 since 2001. The USA is perceived to be its weakest in two decades and incapable of doing anything right (and it took only eight months to accomplish that!). The extensive illegal immigration we have been endu ..read more
