Sometimes (okay – most times….okay – all the times) it can feel like there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get done all of the things that need doing.  When you have to choose between work, school, extracurriculars, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and everything else that gets thrown into the mix, sometimes you’ve just gotta let a few things slide (or get your kids to help out, but sometimes the quality leaves a little to be desired ).  Any time you get the chance tap someone in to help take off a bit of the load it’s a good day, which is why I’ve partnered with @madmaids&nbs ..read more

Becoming “Mom”
The Aspiring Something Blog

Nobody tells you what really happens when you become a mom. They tell you all about the pregnancy cravings and “eating for two”. They joke about how you’ll never sleep again. You hear all kinds of horror stories about labor and delivery. They reminisce about sweet moments with their newborns amidst pauses to shudder at thoughts of diaper blowouts that haunt their dreams well into their kids’ teenage years. But they don’t tell you about the part where you say goodbye to the person you once were without ever really realizing you were leaving. About the subtle shift out of the body of an individu ..read more

Looking For The Best Scrunchies Ever? I Found ‘Em!

I have been compensated for this post, but all opinions are my own! About two years ago, when the word was getting back to “normal” and people were emerging from their homes to head back into the real world, I was doing some digging for a mask post for SavvyMom.ca. I wanted to focus on Canadian companies with high quality masks with cute fabrics that would be fun for kids (and grownups!) to wear for back to school. In my search, I stumbled upon a Montreal-based company called Kokoro. Shortly after my post went live, Cindy, one of the founders of Kokoro, reached out to me to thank me for the ..read more

Why Am I Writing A Post About Bob Saget?
The Aspiring Something Blog

Full House and America’s Funniest Home Videos were staples of my childhood, but that’s not why I’m writing about Bob Saget. I audibly gasped when I saw the news that the actor and comedian recently and unexpectedly passed away at the young age of 65, but that’s not why I’m writing about Bob Saget. Well, not really. I feel weird to be dedicating an entire blog post to Bob Saget, especially considering the fact that this is a parenting blog, and especially especially considering the fact that my posts are hardly regular these days. So a blog post about Bob Saget is really quite out of place. Bu ..read more

An Evening At Nightrise

Recently, our family was given the opportunity to check out Nightrise – an immersive light display at the Summit of Sulphur Mountain in Banff, Alberta. If a visit to the Rockies is on your itinerary before March 12, 2022, I’d definitely recommend paying a visit to the Banff Gondola and taking a ride to the top to experience Nightrise. The magic started with the gondola ride, where the mountains and sky around us were dark, but the interior of the gondola came alive with lights and a beautiful soundscape, welcoming us on our adventure. At first, the kids were a little bit nervous, but exciteme ..read more

On Taking The Plunge

I left my hometown to go to university when I was 19. I didn’t really intend to be gone for long, but of course, life had other plans. I don’t know if this is the way for every teenager, but I think that one of the rites of passage growing up in a small town is talking about how much you can’t wait to leave. I joined in the daydreaming with the rest of my friends, but I never deeply felt the desire to go. It was more of a “see you later” than a “goodbye” when I packed up my car and headed 6 hours north; I just had no idea it would take so long to return. When Stu and I were newly married in o ..read more

I’ve partnered up with the fine folks at Road Coffee Co. to bring you this guest post all about coffee – check it out! Do you often find yourself searching for a way to make a delicious cup of coffee without waking up the people in the house? A cup of coffee in the morning can be a requirement for many people to start the day but let’s face it, it’s not the quietest activity to do in the kitchen. From grinding your coffee beans to the occasionally loud automatic brewer, sometimes making that delicious cup of morning goodness has negative consequences when it comes to waking people up. We’ve c ..read more

7 Reasons I’m A Mean Mom (But Not A Bad One)

Raising kids is a tough gig. Any parent will tell you this. Where once I dozed off each night pondering the next plot twist in the Netflix show I was bingeing, I now lay awake entertaining thoughts of all the things I did that day that make me a shitty mom. Did I yell too much? Was I too harsh on my son when he put his sister into a Wrestlemania-style chokehold? Should I have exercised more patience with my kids on our outing with friends to at least put on the facade of having it all together? Did I give the kids enough vegetables? I try to console myself with reassurances that tomorrow is a ..read more

You love your kids. I know you do. And I love mine. But sometimes, you just need a minute. Whether you’re taking it to dip into your secret candy stash, or just need a moment of silence, it can be hard to find a spot to get away from it all. I’ve come up with this handy list of hiding spots to help you out in case you’re out of ideas. 1. Your Bedroom Estimated time alone: 37 seconds What are you, some kind of rookie? Do not hide here. Your bedroom is the first place they will look. Even hiding under the covers of your bed will not be enough. They will zero in on you in seconds and probably div ..read more
