Four departments responded Sunday morning to a house fire in Houston. Smoke poured out of the structure at King and Chestnut streets as departments began arriving. City of Houston, Houston Rural, Raymondville and Licking were on the scene that sits on the southwest corner of the intersection. Electricity was disconnected from the house. A Texas County Memorial Hospital ambulance was on stand-by. The Houston Police Department assisted with traffic. Shannon County arrest brings firearm charges, patrol says

A Corpus Christi, Texas, man was arrested Saturday night in Shannon County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Jeremy F. Beard, 46, was arrested on charges of felony – unlawful possession of a firearm – dangerous felon, two counts. He is held in the Shannon County Jail, the patrol said. A teen from Licking faces several charges following an investigation Saturday by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Colin R. Jackson, 18, is charged with DWI – first offense, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway, minor in possession of alcohol, failure to signal and wearing no seat belt. Despite having committed six turnovers, the Houston High School Football Tigers held a 3-point lead with less than a minute to go in their season-opening game against Orchard Farm Friday night in Tiger Stadium. But victory wasn’t meant to be for the host Tigers, as the visiting Eagles scored on a 30-yard touchdown pass with 51 seconds left and escaped with a 25-22 win. National Weather Service: Cooler temperatures coming to area

The National Weather Service says temperatures will be in the lower- to middle-90s on Saturday. The maximum heat index values are expected to be 100 to 105 degrees in the warning area. Thunderstorms and cloud cover will help keep temperatures down north of the warning area, which includes Texas County. Tourism at Ozark National Scenic Riverways contributes $73.3M to local economy

A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that about 1.3 million visitors to Ozark National Scenic Riverways in 2022 spent about $63.8 million in communities near the park.
