Considering this procedure? Then you’re in very good company. In fact, it’s becoming more and more commonplace, particularly here in the United States. While it can bring to mind words such as impossibly painful and very permanent, these are old school characterizations. Urologist Justin K. Houman of Cedar-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles gets it. “Because we’re dealing with a sensitive part of the body, it’s understandable that people have some apprehensions about getting the procedure done,” he says. “But they are largely based on misconceptions.” Some popular reasons to have a vasectomy? I have been performing the no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy for over 10 years at this point.  In my opinion, it’s the only type of vasectomy that should be considered. This method is faster, there’s much less discomfort, and has a very easy recovery as compared to the conventional vasectomy. It’s also the least invasive technique and requires no stitches or needles. The procedure itself involves pushing the tube that carries the sperm up against the skin and using a spray gun to anesthetize the area.  It is then grabbed through the skin and the vas deferens is isolated and brought abo ..read more

A common misconception about vasectomies is that they can reduce the male libido, could result in erectile dysfunction, and could impact future sexual potency. Consequently, many couples may choose other forms of contraception over a vasectomy, despite the high success and satisfaction rates. In a study published in August 2015, from the Department of Urology at Stanford University School of Medicine, CA, Dr. David Guo and his team of researchers explored the relationship between vasectomy and sexual frequency. The researchers surveyed the average sexual frequency over a 4-week period reported ..read more

There are many circumstances in which a man may want to preserve his fertility. For example, many cancer patients must undergo chemo therapy or other treatments that can affect their ability to produce sperm. A single man in his mid-30’s, who isn’t ready to have children yet, may want to ensure he has viable sperm if/when he does decide to have children in the future. Gay men who are waiting to find the right surrogate may also decide to preserve their healthy sperm while they can. These fertility preservation options are life-changing, no matter the reason. And they give men reassurance for t ..read more

For many couples, having a reliable and permanent method of birth control equates to peace of mind. Many women are unable to take hormones for a variety of reasons; therefore, a vasectomy may be an option worth exploring. A vasectomy is a procedure done to block or cut both of the vas deferens tubes within the scrotum (tubes that carry sperm). If the sperm cannot make it out of the tubes, and into the vagina, it is impossible to achieve pregnancy. If you are in a committed relationship, already have children and/or you and your partner are confident that you will not want any future children ..read more
