Another week, and another uptick. If you haven’t been following along – and if not, I don’t blame you – but I started these SST sessions about a month ago now after some recovery, and couldn’t complete the session at 100% FTP. Instead I dropped down to 96% FTP Bias and have been ticking it up by 1% each week since. That translates to an extra 5w on the top interval, or the bottom interval… Source ..read more

Each week I try to review and reflect on my previous week on the bike. This allows me to see how my fitness and ability is progressing on a wider timescale than day to day. For previous weekly reviews please click here. Overall a really positive week both on the bike and in my trainers Just one thing that I said I would do and didn’t get done. But I’m not overly fussed about it. Source ..read more

Less Speed, More Distance
Cycling Indoors

I set out today with a slightly different game plan to the Tour de Zwift runs. I wanted to do more running in terms of time (and ideally, distance), so went out at a pace I knew I could sustain for longer. During the latter runs of the Tour de Zwift I had managed to bump up the treadmill to 11kph, and still reckon I could bump it quite a bit higher yet. At that speed I was able to get through… Source ..read more

Wimped Out Of Racing

Deciding not to race today was a decision based on reckoning I’d get hard dropped, and also being conscious of accumulating unnecessary fatigue. I knew I wanted to get in an hour on the bike, but without absolutely slaughtering myself. FTP Builder session then? Sounds good. Doing these hour long ‘endurance’ rides indoor is never that fun. As best I understand the science… Source ..read more

MyWhoosh Tempo #5 Workout on Kluisbergen Route

A tough one today. Tougher than planned, even. As per, my hardware gave me a rougher deal than I should have received. Here’s how I set it up: Paired my Favero hardware for cadence and power, but the Tacx Neo controlling the turbo. That’s the issue. But there’s no way around it. Basically that means my power is reporting correctly, but the game thinks I’m over power and ERG… Source ..read more

Last week I did my SST session at 96%, today I nudged it up 1% to 97%, and it sure felt like enough. This was really hard work today. My gut feeling is that with being in a phase of recovery, easier riding, and generally working at a far lower intensity, I have lost probably 10w off the FTP, and these workouts are really pushing me harder than they are intended – if your FTP is set… Source ..read more

Each week I try to review and reflect on my previous week on the bike. This allows me to see how my fitness and ability is progressing on a wider timescale than day to day. For previous weekly reviews please click here. Overall not a bad week, but it ended on a bit of a downer on Sunday. On the plus side I’ve discovered a new site this week, Intervals.icu, which gives off lots of… Source ..read more

I’m trying to get in at least one MyWhoosh ride each week, and have been pretty consistent with this now for the last few weeks. It’s nice to vary it up, and it’s nice to see where MyWhoosh beats out over Zwift, and vice-versa. For once, today, there were other real life humans riding around to chat too. That was good, but it did highlight a few issues with the MyWhoosh chat facility. Source ..read more

Tour de Zwift 2024: Stage 6 [Run]

Well there we go. Had you told me before Christmas that I would run seven 5K’s, and walk one before the middle of February was out, I would have questioned your sanity. However, here we are. And that is what I’ve done. Yes, I had to walk one – and boy howdy was that a long hour on the treadmill – but I managed to complete the Tour de Zwift 2024 as a run, and I’m pretty pleased with… Source ..read more

96% Bias

Saturday’s SST attempt was a massive struggle. Yesterday I ran, and today my legs overall were not feeling great. It wasn’t a strong starting point to think about re-doing the SST session. But I was determined. Reckoning I wouldn’t get through another attempt – just yet – at 100% – I dropped the FTP bias down such that I wouldn’t be doing the 230/210s I did on Saturday… Source ..read more
