For over two years now, there has been war in Ukraine. What this demands from the people in Ukraine, we can only imagine. Shortly after the outbreak of war, artistic cyclists from Hungary sent a convoy of aid to the school in Nagybereg. Nagybereg is in western Ukraine, south of Lviv, near the border with Hungary. At that time, the VfH Worms collected donations totaling approximately €8,000 in just a few weeks. With this money, food and other supplies were financed to help Ukrainian internally displaced persons staying in Nagybereg. Training in artistic cycling was out of the question during th ..read more

Bella Italia. That’s what the organizing team of the Artistic Cycling World Cup is aiming for. For the first time, such an event is taking place in a country that knows artistic cycling and cycle ball only through its athletes. For several years, we have been in discussions with the relevant officials in Rome to be able to host a World Cup leg in Italy. Luigi Bielli, in collaboration with the officials at ASD Pol.Tarquinia sez.ciclismo, has found cooperative partners. A cycling department of the mentioned sports club has been actively participating in many cycling events for years and showed i ..read more

In the fall, Kathrin Igel traveled to California to integrate artistic cycling into the circus schools in San Diego and San Francisco. While training in San Diego had already begun with an energetic workshop, preparations were still underway in San Francisco. At the San Diego Circus Center, the discipline of “Acrobatic Bikes” is now part of the program. Circus director Jean-Luc Martin had been interested in establishing a cycling artist program at his school for quite some time. In the fall of 2023, the long-planned project became a reality. Kathrin Igel, with a few bikes in tow, traveled to b ..read more

From November 1 to 5, Indoor Cycling Worldwide made a significant mark at the World Bicycle Forum held in Gustavo A. Madero, a borough of Mexico City. Gracia Sotomayor prepared material in Spanish for the participation for this event, as with other actions in Latin America. This time, Angelika Wirth, her co-partner, and Caroline Wirth participated due to the magnitude of the event. They actively engaged in promoting artistic cycling through various initiatives, including three training sessions, two radio interviews, a presentation at an auditorium, and spontaneous demonstrations near the venu ..read more

Outdated, ossified, inflexible. We don’t want to wait for that in the ICWW board. It is time to rejuvenate the board and hand over responsibilities to new leaders. However, to provide a structured environment for this new generation, we met with an interested group on November 18, 2023, at the Cycling Performance Center in Ludwigshafen to establish this framework. Under the moderation of Daniela Keller, the working group thoroughly examined existing tasks and obligations, resulting in a new matrix. We anticipate that this will enable us to find new and active officials who can further develop ..read more

If he definitely closes the book “Active time as an indoor cyclist” on December 31, 2023 with one crying eye, he is happy with the other, laughing eye from January 1, 2024 to plan and spend the freed appointments with his wife Esthi. We are talking about Günter Altwegg, who mastered his last World Championship assignment for the UCI with flying colors at the World Championships in Glasgow. When such a career comes to an end, it is worth questioning what this person has achieved in and for the sport of artistic cycling? At the age of 17 Günter Altwegg was active in the unicycle team 4, head tub ..read more

The eagerly awaited home World Championship finally began on the Wednesday before the event. I met up with Felix and the entire team as scheduled at the Glasgow Emirates Arena. Our preparations had been underway since April of this year when three junior teams from Hessen visited the British cycle-ball team in Bath. This exchange, led by coaches Timo Bartelmei and me, was followed by our participation in the International Indoor Cycling Camp in Frankfurt, just two weeks before the World Championship. These experiences allowed us to fine-tune our skills. Having participated in a World Champions ..read more

The Super Cycling World Championship 2023 in Glasgow is over. How eagerly we all awaited this major event! We had high expectations for it, hoping that this World Championship would advance indoor cycling. With great anticipation, we all, athletes, coaches, fans, and officials, traveled to Scotland and had the opportunity to experience a superbly organized World Championship. Just as all indoor cycling enthusiasts have come to know and love in recent years. Even the fans who arrived early could enjoy cycling in all its forms. Because, if there were any entrance fees at all, they were set at su ..read more

…wow, what a World Championship, a truly special one! Please note that this is not a conventional report about the riders, results, and assessments of the event. I leave that to others. My aim is to describe the World Championship from the perspective of an artistic cycling commissar who had the privilege of stepping onto the grand stage of artistic cycling for one last time. Or should I say, the vast performance area of 11 by 14 meters with its 4 and 8-meter circles and a center point of 50 cm? To be precise, it’s the athletes who enter the performance area, and the Chief Commissar only steps ..read more
