The Island Free Press (IFP) is excited to announce the launch of the 2025 calendar, and pre-ordering is now available for folks who want to celebrate the beauty of Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands all year long.
Our IFP readers submitted all the photos in the 12-month 2025 calendar and include landmarks, beach scenes, and other sites that make these islands truly remarkable.

The Secotan Alliance is proud to host its first ever annual event: In the Spirit of Wingina… and Beyond. A starter event at Frisco Native American Museum in Frisco, NC will open the 2 ½ days long full event from 4pm-6pm May 29. The next 2 days of the event will take place May 30-31, 2024 at the College of the Albemarle, Dare Campus, located at 205 U.S. 64 in Manteo, NC.

KILL DEVIL HILLS — On May 6, 2024, Nicholas Flowers, 80, gained his heavenly wings. Nick was an amazing man who always put his family first. He retired in 2011 from Infilco Degremont in Richmond, Virginia, as an Electrical Engineer and moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
He is preceded in death by his, wife Vonnie Flowers. Nick leaves behind his daughter, Michelle Flowers Saunders; son, Robin Flowers; son-in-law Christopher Saunders; granddaughter, Brielle Loper; grandson Skylar Saunders; and great-grandson Elias Pinkstone. Donna Neace Brady, passed suddenly yet peacefully on May 1, 2024. She was born September 11, 1946, in Petersburg, VA. Donna was preceded in death by her mother Cora Davis Moody, father Neil Moody, and daughter, Chantel Love Brady. She was a beacon of light and warmth to both her family and her community that she dearly loved.

Betty “Jean’ House, age 90, formerly of Raleigh, NC passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024, in the care of Transitions Lifecare in Raliegh, NC. Jean was born August 23, 1933, to Robert and Lena Massengill. She was raised in Johnston County, NC where she attended Four Oaks high school. Jean then attended Atlantic Christian College and worked with the James B. Green #735 Masonic Lodge for over 30 years.

Larry Gray Ogden, 79, a resident of Lower Pottsgrove Township, PA, since September of 2020, passed away Tuesday night, May 7, 2024, at Grand View Hospital in Sellersville, PA. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore will offer additional Bodie Island Lighthouse climbing opportunities, including full moon and evening climbs, starting later in May.
Every Tuesday from May 28 through August 27, evening climbs will occur at 8 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Additionally, full moon climbs will be offered on May 23, June 21, July 21, August 19, and September 17.
