I have no idea why, but NFC somehow "reset" the problem and tpfc came back online on the next restart.
Could have been coincidence though.
Now you may get a chuckle out of this one...
So I downloaded NFC 1.63 a couple of hours ago but when I tried to run the setup it just froze. Twice in a row. So I gave up.
Just for giggles, went back and downloaded TPFC 0.63 again. And now it works.
I've got nothing...other then say "thanks again" for your help...
well, just software things... reminds me how I hope someone could share some insight on cloned harddrives or ssd's not running normally ..read more

Many thanks for replying!
After reboot the problem is gone, and TPFC boots on startup.
My problem is that TPFC remained buggy after re-boot, and even after re-install.
Forgot about NFC altogether, might have to look into that...
just checked my notes. The first time it happened, it didn't fix itself by restarting as well.

Happened several times to my T420. Similarly, I have been using TPFC without any problems on many machines.
One day suddenly I got 0 C and n/a readings. Fan doesn't spin up if laptop gets hot. When TPFC killed, laptop works with fan on full blast.
I think its a bug with some sensor chip, since I installed Notebook fan control 1.63 -> it detected cpu temp at works without problems.
After reboot the problem is gone, and TPFC boots on startup. Happened 3 or 4 times in the span of 1 year.

OK I've got to say I'm somewhat baffled with this one...
I had TPFC version 0.62 running on my T520 (W7 Ultimate 64) for as long as I've owned the machine. All of a sudden this afternoon, I turn the system on to 0 reading temperature in TPFC, even after restart. Proceeded to uninstall and then re-install the 0.63 which is supposedly the last version that fits the ThinkPad in question and this OS, same story.
What gives ?

So you decide you want to install an Azurewave AW-CB160H (Broadcom BCM94360HMB) in your ThinkPad.
AW-CB160H is a unique Mini PCI-E WLAN card that it uses the first generation slot but has MHF4 (1.5mm) antenna jacks. It has 3 jacks, is Wireless C, and has built in Bluetooth 4.0.
Personally I buyed this card for my X330 which was fit with MHF4 antennae, but I want a Mini PCI-E card as the NGFF card adapters impose on the WWAN/mSATA slot. This is despite the X330 also having a pair of MHF1 antennae fit but for some reason in my machine they perform awfully.
The problem I run into with this ca ..read more

But it runs legacy software that is difficult to replace as hard to evaluate software for what I need.
Problem with Windows 7 is availability of security software - so keep it off of Internet and only plug in USB memory sticks that have been checked on a newer computer.
