The new year is almost upon us, and here at WMF that means it is time yet again for us to celebrate some of the music releases that have had the most profound impact on our lives during the past twelve months. As is customary in our annual tradition, we have compiled not simply a list of track titles and links, but also exclusive information related to the creative works directly from the artists themselves.* It is both an honor and pleasure to formally recognize these twenty-three gems with you here, and —as always— we do emphasize that the purpose of the compilation’s order is only to create ..read more

We thrilled to attend the Italians Do It Better holiday party December 22 at Grandmaster Recorders in Hollywood. Megan Louise of Desire and IDIB kept the dance floor delighted the entire time we were there, and we were lucky enough to pull crucial curator Los Angela, Megan Louise, and legend Johnny Jewel away from the festivities just long enough for a few seasonal snaps. Earlier in the evening, Glüme performed host duties and Mothermary contributed to the special event’s DJ roster. Besides the fabulous people who populated it December 22, The Grandmaster Recorders space itself is an hi ..read more

Megan Louise spends her days not only as president of revered independent record label/creative collective Italians Do It Better, but also as one of its marquee artists, Desire. In the twelve years that have passed since Desire’s debut –and hitherto only – full-length album, Megan Louise has seemingly indefatigably built a creative empire in IDIB alongside legendary partner Johnny Jewel. Releasing not only her own music, but also that from an ever-evolving international roster of kindred artists, Megan Louise and IDIB have indeed created a world all their own, enjoyed by music fans around the ..read more

Hot upon the heels of our in-depth Eyedress interview earlier this year, we were exceedingly eager to jump straight into an extensive conversation with The Simps as soon as the opportunity presented itself. Lucky for us, we didn’t have to wait long, and were recently able to sit down with both Zzzahara and Eyedress, who collaborate under moniker The Simps.  As gracious as they are prolific, The Simps talked about collaboration, their upcoming 2021 debut album, and more. Our illuminating socially distanced discussion was an inspirational pick-me-up during the ongoing pandemic, and we are d ..read more

Active Decay’s debut single “I Really Love You” is out now and available on all platforms, and we’re especially excited about this one here at WMF. Brooke Prince of Active Decay recently came over to WMH HQ with collaborator Wyatt Blair, and we were delighted by what we heard about — and by — this new project. The “I Really Love You” single bodes for the upcoming Active Decay debut album, which we understand is slated for a November 18 release. We asked Brooke for additional information and insights into “I Really Love You” and upcoming Active Decay releases, and she graciously shared the foll ..read more

Obscure Alternatives celebrated its one-year anniversary in style last night at The Lash in Downtown Los Angeles. The exceptional evening featured striking live performances courtesy They/Live and Midnight Prisms. A DJ set by WMF Faves Girls on Film made the evening ever more memorable, and we happily snapped and documented a humble fraction of the evening’s magic in-between late-night dancing under the heat dome. They/Live Midnight Prisms Girls on Film Ryan Arm ..read more

We’ve fervently followed and enjoyed Taraka Larson’s work in sibling duo Prince Rama as well as her more recent and recommended solo releases. Last year’s '“0010110’” single from debut Taraka album Welcome to Paradise Lost made such an impression on us that we happily included it on our 2021 year-end Top Tracks list. Taraka shared the following exclusive insights into her cover of “Reverence”, released not-so-coincidentally on Easter Sunday: “I've never been that into doing covers, but Jesus and Mary Chain started appearing in my dreams and this song in particular haunted me. It felt like a go ..read more
