"color-accurate" tonemapping

Hi together. Since a longer time, I prefer luminance-based workflow for raw development. So I changed over to luminance tonecurves (and tonemapping etc.) I’m investigating on the issue with desaturated images in case of strong contrast increases. Here an example: Up left you see my proposal. Big image is linear raw - right bottom is luminance blend mode in gimp. Is there anyone of you color-experts out there - willing to check the idea / technical concept I pursue? I “wrote” a gegl-plugin as PoC please have a look here: https://github.com/immanuelsch/gegl-HDR-ColorMapper Cheers, Immanuel 2 po ..read more

Batch-apply filters from history to multiple images?

Long ago (decades?) I remember being able to do a set of operations including curves adjustment and USM, save that as some sort of macro, and auto-apply it to a batch of images. Today I have Gimp 2.10.24 and my online search for batch operations in Gimp shows a command-line mode that uses Script-Fu Scheme programming, that I don’t think I did before, or reference a plugin “BIMP” with a limited range of actions not including “curves”. I wanted to be able to use my hand-drawn curve that is saved as preset in the Curves filter, and I don’t know how to reference or control that from a Scheme scrip ..read more

How To Stroke Like Photoshop

I don’t know image apps very well so I don’t know the proper terminology. I could tell you all about audio apps, but not this stuff. So please excuse my ignorance. I used to do this in Photoshop very simply. Basically, what I’m doing is making audiobook covers for my audiobook server. That entails finding a book cover image - which are portrait format - and then plopping that cover image over a 1200x1200 dark gray, square layer. So there are two layers now. I used to go into a Layer submenu and then select Stroke to add a gold border to the book cover portrait image layer and it was done! I co ..read more

Two mild GIMP irritations [SOLVED]

GIMP 2.10.34 Win 7 (no, not going to upgrade yet) In File>Open and File>Open As Layers the drop-down comes up set to my Windows User folder and I would prefer that to be my Desktop folder. Probably related, but sometimes it saves images or itself to the User folder, not the Desktop, grump. If I ‘Export As’ a TIFF it exports the Layers variety which some viewers e.g. FastStone won’t open as images. I had a quick look in prefs but the answers didn’t jump off the page (I’m old). Can anyone explain the logic behind the Threshold option in the color picker?

I’m using the composite selection that I assume is a composite RGB value. The default is 15 for the threshold. Does that mean 15 pixels radius from the selected color or something else? 5 posts - 3 participants Read full topic ..read more

Hello everyone, I learned how to use the bracketing option on my EOS T7, to take 3 identical picture with 3 different exposures, the image bellow is my test result. Left (A): Normal exposure Middle (B): Underexposed (This is where i like the clouds) Right (C): Overexposed with a somewhat better terrain (Which is not very interesting actually but still better then A or B) I followed this interesting tutorial to learn how to blend images to modify exposures using GIMP. How To Create HDR Images {Easily} in GIMP But it’s not doing what I want exactly. In the tutorial the teacher is working with 2 ..read more

Grey symbols vs. coloured symbols

hallo, I’m new here. And also new to Gimp (2.10.38, under windows 10). I’m 76 years old, and normally I talk German, but I understand a little English. My first problem: the symbols in the toolboxes are grey, it’s hard to distinguish them from the dark grey background. The 3 books I have show the symbols coloured, what looks nice and more clear to see. I guess that I only have to add a littel hook or cross at a certain point to get the colours. But after three days of looking after it, I could’t find the point. The books also didn’t help. Would anybody here please be so kind and help me along ..read more

I want to batch remove text from speech bubbles for a bunch of manga pages at once using GIMP. How do I do that? Someone said to lasso select all the bubbles, using Shift to accumulate all the selections, and then hit Delete, but I don’t know how. Can someone show me using these images for an example? Toolbox Layering Behavior?

I used GIMP 2.10.6 until a few days ago, when I upgraded to 2.10.38 (most recent at time of posting). Previously, when I maximized the window, my dialog boxes (I usually have the Toolbox and Layers/Channels/Paths open) would remain on top of all image canvases, but would disappear if I switched to a different program. This is no longer the case: whenever I maximize the window, or click on the canvas, the dialogs now fall behind the active canvas window. I have tried using the options in Edit > Preferences > Interface > Window Management: “Utility window” makes them disappear from my t ..read more
