It’s 2022, and let’s face it - a lot has happened over the last 2 years that likely has impacted your practice. It at least certainly has impacted mine (virtual classes at home with 3 cats, walking all over the computer, could only last so long). So let’s work together to re-ground ourselves and find meaning and routine in our practice again… with a challenge! (and yes, rewards are involved!) This year’s spring challenge, “Revitalize Your Practice,” focuses on LSQP's key mission to ignite confidence and vitality in our community through the principal teachings of Pilates: concentration, contr ..read more

Since LSQP’s first year, we have held challenges for our community as a way to celebrate victories, embrace positive change, and welcome new daily habits to keep us healthy and happy. Earlier this year, dozens of our community members participated in our 30 Session Spring Challenge with the goal of completing 30 sessions or classes in 8 weeks. We are excited to announce that one client, Maria D., reached 30 sessions during the challenge and won a free month of membership! Reading Maria's account of what the Spring Challenge at LSQP meant to her was so encouraging for us and we’re sure it will ..read more

The year got off to a great start, with progress on all goals.  On Sunday, March 8, in partnership with the amazing Jae Webb and ..read more

On the heels of our second anniversary, I’d like to take an opportunity to share some insight into our journey as a mission-driven business and a deepening of our commitment to making Pilates accessible to all. One of the first things my co-founders, Kristi Wood, Aileen May, and I did as we began building our plan for Logan Square Pilates + Core Studio was to align on a mission statement. Despite our varied experiences, perspectives, skills, and roles within the business, we were 100% aligned on our purpose in bringing LSQP into the world:  To make Pilates accessible to all bodies in our ..read more

It’s the mind itself which shapes the body. Man should develop his physical condition simultaneously with that of his mind. Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. Our interpretation of physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure. It is better to be tired from physical exertion than to be fatigued by the ‘poisons’ generated by nervousness while lying awake. The acquirement and enjoyment of phys ..read more

There is an interesting and growing relationship between Pilates and physical therapy. As Pilates has become more popular over the last 20 years, more doctors are recommending Pilates to their clients with foot, knee, back, neck, shoulder pain, and other issues. Meanwhile, physical therapists are integrating Pilates equipment and exercises into their practices. While Pilates and physical therapy are not the same or interchangeable, there is an interesting relationship between the two. There are also distinctions that need to be made with regard to their approaches and limits in addressing heal ..read more

When Joseph Pilates created his system of exercise that he called “Contrology” in the early 20th century, he approached movement and exercise as an integrated whole, not as working the body as a bunch of independent parts. This paradigm shift from the narrow scope of exercise, to the expansive concept of integrating natural, whole-body movements into all facets of life was revolutionary!  Joe always told his students, “It is the mind itself which builds the body.”  He encouraged his students to use their minds to focus attention on the core postural muscles that help keep the spine s ..read more
