Doubles Rallies Getting Shorter in 2024
Professional Pickleball Association
by Jim Ramsey
6d ago
A subtle change is happening across the early portion of this PPA season. Championship doubles rallies are shorter this year. That’s using the statistics from the three PPA gold medal doubles matches in each of the first five tournaments of this year, compared to those same tournaments at the start of 2023.  Using those two sets of 15 matches from 2023 and 2024, doubles rallies are more than one-shot-per-rally shorter this year, falling from 10.78 shots per rally to 9.64. Men’s Doubles: 10.57 shots per rally in 2023, 10.96 shots per rally in 2024, a 0.39 shots pe ..read more

Waters reaches another milestone, wins 100th-career gold medal
Professional Pickleball Association
by Andrew Gilman

Less than three years ago, Anna Leigh Waters won her first gold medal. Sunday, she won her 100th.  With another triple crown, this time at the North Carolina Cup, Waters stayed comfortably “on-brand” as the best, most-dominant, no-doubt-about-it, of-course-she-won-again, champion. Because in women’s pickleball, there’s Waters and then after that, there’s “not-exactly.” With her friends and family present, posing for pictures, Waters celebrated a milestone. Her first title came in August of 2021. Titles 98, 99 and 100 were Sunday in Cary, N.C., the final an 11-4, 11-4 victory over the seco ..read more

Parenteau gets by Devidze, gets another shot at Waters
Professional Pickleball Association
by Andrew Gilman

To get the chance to play a familiar foe Catherine Parenteau hasn’t had much success against, she had to beat a new rival who Parenteau hasn’t had success with either. Saturday Parenteau did the second part, getting past Salome Devidze. And now Sunday, Parenteau gets a chance at the first part, when she’ll take on Anna Leigh Waters in the singles final of the North Carolina Cup. “It feels really good,” Parenteau said after beating Devidze. “I’m almost in tears.” What a weird, strange trip 2024 singles has been for Parenteau. She’s the second-best player in the PPA, but the past two times out ..read more

Wild run continues for Brascia and Fought
Professional Pickleball Association
by Andrew Gilman

Todd Fought is feeling good, Maggie Brascia is just “so excited” and Mary Brascia is living it up. And Mary isn’t even playing.  Yeah, that’s what happens when you enter the draw as the No. 22 seed and make it all the way to Semifinal Saturday. “I can’t wait,” said Todd Fought, who, along with his partner Maggie Brascia, continued their improbable run through and knocked off another higher-seeded team at the PPA Tour’s North Carolina Cup. “I’m feeling like we can’t lose,” he said. Truly, who can blame him? At this point, why not? Fought and Brascia are the only team out of four who had ..read more

Upsetting day Thursday in North Carolina
Professional Pickleball Association
by Andrew Gilman
1w ago
The last time the PPA Tour was in action Anna Bright and Matt Wright were the big winners. Bright won a pair of gold medals and was the player of the tournament in Austin, scoring a pair of wins in mixed doubles and in women’s doubles, beating the seemingly unbeatable Anna Leigh Waters twice in the same day. Meanwhile, Matt Wright picked up his first gold in 2024 in Austin and headed to North Carolina back with regular partner James Ignatowich. So what the heck happened in North Carolina? Hard to say, but Bright lost twice on Thursday, Ignatowich lost twice and Wright lost once. All were No. 2 ..read more
