At the 2023 Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships we had the opportunity to spend time with some of the most amazing women who are blazing new trails in the business of pickleball!   Even before we arrived in Dallas, someone we have admired from afar, Elise Ivy, co-founder of Rokne Pickleball, posted a pic of herself wearing our Pickleball Statement visor, and tagged us. When we got to Dallas and finally had the chance to meet Elise, she laughingly told us that she had forgotten to pack her Rokne visor.  She said that she loved our visors so much that she wanted to pro ..read more

Pickleball For A Cause - Is Pickleball the New Golf Outing?

Golf has been the primary sport for business deals and relationship building. Golf outings have also been a go-to for nonprofits, providing participants with a relaxing day on the links while raising funds for their favorite charitable cause. In fact, years ago I organized an annual golf outing to benefit the non-profit Ele’s Place, a healing center for grieving children in Lansing, Michigan, where I worked for fifteen years. After 5 years of coordinating this event, our Board of Directors wisely decided that this event was not worth the time or investment. Coordinating a golf outing i ..read more

Dink Like a Girl

Need we say more? When Jojo and I were young, we sometimes heard comments in gym class or on the playground like…“You throw like a girl”, or “You run like a girl”. It was usually said teasingly by boys who wanted to display their confidence and athletic superiority over girls. For me and Jojo, it was a source of motivation to get better. One thing that we love about pickleball is that it is a sport that empowers everyone who plays it, no matter their age or gender. Anna Leigh Waters is an example of a young woman who has dominated the sport of pickleball since playing prof ..read more

Thursday, March 9 5:30 am: I overslept! We are supposed to leave at 5:45 am for our 90-minute drive (as my husband likes to remind me “ride” - thanks to his driving) to Detroit Metro Airport. Thankfully, I pre-loaded all of the luggage so I can be out the door in 15 minutes! But oh no…I missed two calls from our friend Colleen who is supposed to travel with us to Daytona Beach! Her voicemail says that a deer hit her car (yep, not car hit a deer) on the way to my house—and that she’s okay, but her airbags deployed and she isn’t going to make it. Major bummer.   6:15 am: We call Col ..read more

Let’s be real. Pickleball gets us out of bed even when we don’t want to.  When my sister LuAnn and I were young, our dad often woke us up in the morning with the phrase, “up and at ‘em, you two,” as he turned on the lights. The last thing we wanted to do was get out of our warm beds on a cold day and go to school. This memory was the inspiration behind one of our very first jojo+lo tee designs…Up and Atom. Our Up And Atom Tees coming off the belt, and Amanda in our Up And Atom Performance Tank. It’s time to write our jojo+lo blog but this month it’s difficult to do. Jojo and I are n ..read more

A Few of Our Favorite jojo+lo Pickleball Things…a Guide to Holiday Gift Giving

Jojo and I love the holidays and we get so excited to see our family and friends’ reactions when they open a jojo+lo pickleball present. We are no different than most pickleball players…we can never have enough gear and apparel. We wear it loud and proud on and off the courts. When we are shopping or running around town in one of our graphic tees and we run into people who play pickleball…they immediately recognize that we are fellow pickleball players and strike up a conversation. When we encounter someone who doesn’t play pickleball and we have on our simple PICKLE tee, we are often asked…“w ..read more

Our First Year Anniversary

Last year when Jojo and I were getting ready to launch our pickleball apparel and accessory business, we wanted with all of our hearts for our brand name to be “Jolo” Pickleball Wear ~ with Flair. We were so disappointed when we learned from our attorney that there would be a trademark conflict with Jennifer Lopez’s brand J.Lo if we pursued the name “Jolo”. We decided we were not going to attempt to battle J.Lo in a courtroom…but if J.Lo plays pickleball we’re pretty sure we would take her down on the courts! I was in the car with my husband heading to Northern Michigan when I learned that we ..read more

On His Way to Becoming a Pro ~ A Conversation with Drew Holder

Even though we were already Instagram friends, the first time we met Drew Holder in person was at the PPA Atlanta Open. He showed up at our pop-up shop and introduced himself. We were immediately won over by his easy smile, friendly nature, and positive energy. It felt like we had always known him…maybe that’s because he is a fellow Michigander from Trenton, MI. Drew was playing singles on this particular 90 degree day in May. In between matches, he would stop at our shop to chat and update us on his matches. He had so much energy and was never winded or tired after co ..read more

Picklebowl ~ Lake Odessa, USA Last week Jojo and I set up our pop-up shop at the quaintest pickleball tournament destination we have ever experienced…maybe the quaintest in the world. The Picklebowl had 250 participants and it was held in a very small town called Lake Odessa, Michigan, population of 2,000. It is a beautiful, new pickleball facility with eight individually fenced outdoor courts that was built on the Lake Odessa Fairgrounds in 2017. As we parked our SUV’s, loaded with merchandise, we took a moment to take in our surroundings. We were amidst farm fields, mooing cows i ..read more
