Want Tasty? Think Frozen!

So often I’m asked how frozen food can possibly be convenient when everything needs to be defrosted first. What most people don’t realise is that it’s not necessary to defrost most foods (particularly vegetables), and that there are even fish and meat products available that can be cooked from frozen in the oven (I got mine from Tesco)! Shop-bought frozen foods are such a great way to have a nice healthy, home-cooked meal, cooked quickly, with absolutely no waste. And considering the average family wastes over £700 every year* throwing away food that they could have eaten, reducing your food w ..read more

3 Steps To Reducing Food Waste This Christmas
The Full Freezer

Well, I can't say I didn't have my suspicions that something like this would happen, but I was really hoping that it wouldn't. It is Sunday 20th December 2020, and my family now find ourselves in 'Tier 4' (aka Lockdown). I've been sharing tips about Christmas Dinner prep for a little while now, but I know that for a lot of people it won't have entered their minds until the last few days. There is so much to organise, and Christmas Dinner shopping is usually always dealt with the weekend before the Big Day. So, what if you went to the shops yesterday? You've now got enough food for fourteen, bu ..read more

A Freezer Geek's Guide to Kitchen Tools

I have had a lot of people ask me about the various 'kit' that I use, so I thought it might be helpful to pop it all in one place. I want to start by saying that none of this is necessary to get you started with overhauling your Freezer. When I began on my journey of creating The Full Freezer, I used what I had. Tupperware lids and baking trays instead of freezing trays; normal baking parchment instead of reusable; regular ice cube trays instead of the super cool ones below (I know, I know, I’m a total freezer geek). BUT if you are going down the path of Freezer Filling then you may like to in ..read more

3 Tips To Make Your Food Last Longer During Lockdown

Well. Here we are again. Another Lockdown looming over us, and I have to confess I don't quite know how to feel. I can't say I'm shocked, but equally I don't think the reality has sunk in just yet. Having the schools open and childcare in place is a massive relief without a doubt. But I can't help but worry for our nation's physical, mental and economic wellbeing. I don't think I have ever felt more aware of 'living through history' (except perhaps when the whole Brexit debacle kicked off). Such horribly uncertain times, and no right or wrong answer. It is just exhausting. So, I thought the be ..read more

Freezer Stash White Sauce
The Full Freezer

Makes approx 500ml - double the recipe if you have the freezer space! White sauce (or Béchamel sauce) is such a winner to have in the freezer. It defrosts quite quickly (in the bag in cold water) if frozen flat and allows you to make amazing meals like lasagna and fish pie, fully from scratch without having to do everything at once. If you want to add a little extra flavour you can simmer the milk with 1 halved onion, studded with 1 bay leaf and 2 cloves, then turn off the heat and allow to infuse for 20 mins (I never bother though!). INGREDIENTS - 50g plain flour - 50g butter - 500ml wh ..read more

3 Things I Learnt Working With The Family Food Coach

“Who knew the hardest part of being an adult would be deciding what to eat every single day for the rest of your life?” Said someone on the Internet at some point... I can’t accredit this quote to anyone because it mostly appears in funny memes. For most stressed out, busy people though, it’s far from funny. The only thing harder than this ‘adult’ task? Deciding what to feed your family too. And then actually cooking the meal. Serving it and praying they’ll eat it. And then cleaning up afterwards. Battling with their (and perhaps your or your partners) dislikes, preferences and for an increasi ..read more

Banana Choc Ices (Kid-Friendly)
The Full Freezer

I'll be honest with you, I'm not a big fan of bananas, but these are really tasty... INGREDIENTS - Banana (one per person) - Chocolate (dark is really nice, but go with what you like!) - you'll need around 50g per banana (depending on how big it is!) METHOD 1. Wash your hands, then cut the banana in half and push your finger into the middle of each half - this will push it into three segments. 2. Pop the pieces into the freezer on a tray on some baking parchment. Freeze for an hour or two. 3. Once solid, (ask an adult to) melt the chocolate in the microwave on low, heating it for 10-20 second ..read more
