Waterless beauty is THE trend of the decade and this section is one of the industry sections that the artisanal manufacturers can beat the big boys of the industry, I can not repeat this enough. Lotion bars or body melts are so easy to make and so fun to use. You don't need to go through the hassle of gum hydration, viscosity adjustment, pH measurement and adjustment and the stability testing is much less complicated and faster. Lotion bars are my favorite products to giveaway because they are beautiful and because you can wrap and pack them plastic free. What else do you need to jump in your ..read more

Sweet dreams foot cream
Skinchakra
by Dr. Elham Eghbali
1M ago
There are lots of foot and leg formulations for athletes but I have seldom seen a soothing and relaxing foot cream to send the consumer to a smooth sleep. This beautiful foot cream not only pampers the feet right before the sleep, it is using the lavender oil/extract to calm down the nerves and promote a healthy sleep. Procedure: 1- Blend phase A and B in heat proof vessels 2- Heat both phased between 80-85 3- Homogenize the oil phase in the water phase 4- Disperse the gum in the still hot emulsion 5- Stir while cooling down 6- At a temperature <45 C add phase D and E 7- Prepare a 10% dil ..read more

How to use the fluid ceramide with lysolecithin?
Skinchakra
by Dr. Elham Eghbali

Lysolecithin is an emulsifier that can be used hot or cold and obviously and for the planet's sake we shall cold process as much as it is possible. Sometimes however you need to hot or warm process because you are using certain ingredients that are not cold processable. In today's tutorial we are sharing a non-KISS formulation with an outstanding skin feel. Since we are using the sclerotium which needs heat for full hydration, we used some other ingredients that need gentle heating for incorporation. Here we are using shea butter and the fluid ceramide for a barrier protective emulsion with a ..read more

Mango- rosehip cream

I wanted to create an elegant rich cream for the latest days of the cold and windy weather. This is a rich cream yet thanks to the triheptanoin it feels silky and non-greasy over the skin. We are using the cross-linked hyaluron here for the ease of use compared to other hyaluron varieties. This is not exactly a KISS formulation but the procedure is still straightforward (sort of). Since the preservative system we are using performs dependent of the pH we have an additional step in pH measurement. More about the pH measurement steps in O/W emulsions in our digital file below: How to measure ..read more

Acai facial moisturizer
Skinchakra

One of my favorite experiments is blending ingredients. Well we all do blending ingredients but I like to blend preservatives, blend emulsifiers or gums to study their synergy. In this formulation I have used lysolecithin and GSC, two awesome emulsifiers that each work perfectly as a standalone emulsifier. By combining the two, we improve the stability of the emulsion and add a phospholipid touch to the emulsion that creates a mindblowing skin feel and texture. Procedure: 1- Blend phase A and B separately in heatproof beakers 2- Heat both phases between 80-85 C 3- When both phases have reach ..read more

Easter marbled lotion bars

I can not help singing the praise of the lotion bars. I have mentioned this a zillion times and am going to repeat it again: these are the products to start with if you are an artisanal formulator with a limited budget. Even the big industry has now realized that waterless products are a key solution to improve the climate disaster we have brought upon ourselves during the last 200 years. Despite some of my colleagues I don't believe we can go completely waterless and I still enjoy the application of a toner or a lotion over my skin but I personally try to avoid water containing formulations ..read more

This anhydrous cleansing balm is made with SCS instead of SCI that we usually use. SCS is ECOCERT approved. This is a soft balm to be scooped out of the jar and applied over the skin and then rinse off. It has a lovely fluffy lather and refatting properties.... This is a members' only article.
