Goldfinch Whisky Merchants have embarked on a fascinating whisky endeavour known as the Goldfinch Wine Series. In this innovative project, they took five ex-sherry hogsheads containing 12-year-old Blair Athol and subjected each one to a finishing period of up to two years in a distinct wine barrel. To maintain consistency throughout the collection, all the whiskies were bottled at the same strength. The outcome of this venture is the remarkable looking Goldfinch Wine Series. Goldfinch’s objective with this series was to offer whisky enthusiasts an opportunity to explore the influence of finish ..read more

Glen Scotia Festival Edition 2022

Those who know me will know that I’m a self confessed Glen Scotia Fanboy and thus slightly biased! Putting that aside… this is another cracker of a dram from the fantastic Campbeltown based distillery. I’ve bought the festival edition releases since 2019 and try to get hold of each annual release if cash allows. This year was no exception to that rule and having had a tonne of teaser GIFs from Brian, I was sat patiently waiting for the email notification from Glen Scotia to announce it’s release. As soon as it hit my inbox, I pulled the trigger and was delighted with the speed at which my or ..read more

The Distillery Glencadam Distillery was founded in 1825 by merchant George Cooper.  The distillery changed hands a number of times between 1837 and 1891. Gilmour, Thompson & Company Limited purchased the distillery in 1891 and used some of the Glencadam product in their brand of blended whisky called “Royal Blend“. Despite earlier purchases, George Ballantine & Son Ltd finally purchased the distillery in 1956 with ownership eventually being passed to Allied Domecq through further consolidation in the industry. Allied Domecq mothballed the distill ..read more

Peg Whisky Limited Edition No. II

It feels like a lifetime ago, but it’s actually just under 5 months since I last had the privilege of tasting Peg Whiskies Inaugural Limited Edition Bottling. That was delicious and is more like the type of whisky I would typically go for, a young cask strength, Speyside, single malt. I was absolutely thrilled when Peg Whisky were kind enough to send me some samples of their other bottlings, along with a mysterious dram labelled ‘PWPD002’ – to say I was curious is an understatement! My Tasting Notes Nose: Slightly floral arrival, lovely wave of spirit and mild dunnage notes from the start. Pa ..read more

Berg Who? As their name might suggest, they like icebergs! Berg Whisky is built on the premise that just like whisky, icebergs run deep. They say: There are many levels to them both. Up to 90% of an iceberg can lie underwater and leaves much to be discovered beneath the surface. These glorious glacial formations fascinate and spur us to seek everything there is to know about our favourite dark spirit. There are stories waiting to unfold beyond the appearances of icebergs and whisky. We played with the idea of combining the two into something that embodied our values: design, whisky and ..read more

Who are Peg Whisky? Peg Whisky is two brothers, who sat with a dram talking about their love for Whisky one night, when one of them said ‘How amazing would it be if we could bring out our own Whisky for everyone to enjoy’.  ‘How exactly would we do that?’ asked the other brother. They both then started laughing at the idea until a few hours later, when one of them said ‘Hold on, what’s stopping us from making this happen? Let’s turn this dream into a reality!’ After they both agreed that this could be something special, they started on their journey to create a Whisky that was personal to ..read more
