Two tickets for the Woodstock Festival
The Woodstock Festival in 1969 was 55 years ago this coming summer. I came across an article I wrote 25 years after the festival and it brings back happy memories.
I was there! I was at Yasgur’s Farm that summer of ’69. I still have the ticket I purchased for entrance. It was never collected at the gate. By the time I arrived organizers had flung open the gates and declared it a free concert.
In the summer of ’69 I was a college student working at a summer job at Sterling Forest Gardens. My parents had a summer home in Greenwood Lake and even there it w ..read more

Red-shouldered hawk chick taking a meal
Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is revered for the beautiful wading birds that the National Audubon Society first protected from plume hunters over a century ago. While herons and egrets typically gather in large numbers near the boardwalk to feed on fish concentrating in the shallow waters each spring, visitors can enjoy seeing birds of many other species year-round. In fact, some birds make their nests right along the boardwalk, providing glimpses into their daily lives.
One is the black vulture.
Volunteers first spied this cutie peeking out of its nest in ..read more

We’ve all seen it, the dog walking around Publix with a service dog vest on. Unfortunately, service dog vests can be brought online so it’s hard to tell whether or not the dog has been trained to perform specific tasks that assist the owner’s disability. Sometimes the owner’s disability is not even apparent as in the cases of hearing deficits or diabetes. To complicate matters, some owners are gaining access to business with “emotional support dogs.” How are you to know whether that dog walking past you in the store is a legitimate service dog?

You and your partner need to be on the same page when it comes to moving together on the pickleball court. Is your partner going to drop or drive their shots? It is a good idea to communicate a lot with your partner to let them know, so they can be prepared for the next ball coming back. You can talk to one another or you can use hand signals.
Ball placement is very important. Hitting the ball back to the player who is running in and not to the person already at the kitchen line — who is considered the power player — allows both of you (from the serve side) time to run to the kitchen ..read more

Sir Roland Richardson
For almost 60 years, Sir Roland Richardson has been painting. Born in 1944 in the West Indies on the island of Saint Martin, he knew nothing about art. The islanders didn’t even know that art existed because they had very little communication with the outside world.
“You’d spend your time just surviving. You plant and grow and pray for rain and go fishing. Art wasn’t a necessity or even a luxury,” said Richardson.
Let’s back up to how his world changed.
As a youngster, Roland immigrated from the French island along with his two brothers to join his mother’s family in Ne ..read more

Jennifer Manse as Mrs. Peacock
“Fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride.”
