A Mexican bakery in Compton reopened today after a mob of looters almost destroyed it during an illegal street takeover. A large group entered Ruben’s Bakery & Mexican Food at the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Santa Fe Avenue. Security gates and walls were knocked down, and store merchandise and equipment were stolen. The family has an active GoFundMe page, where it has over 785 contributions since it launched two days ago. Last month AltaMed Health Services opened its first Alternative Care Setting (ACS) in the city of Compton. The facility will provide participants enrolled in their Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), an additional place for them to access services designated by their care team closer to home.
The 10,000-square-foot facility will serve up to 150 AltaMed PACE participants who live in the area. For its grand opening the community celebrated with food, entertainment and raffle prizes.

KVEA Channel 52’s evening news anchor Dunia Elvir is one of a handful of Latina journalists who figure prominently in “¡De última hora! Latinas Report Breaking News,” a new exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., that highlights the contributions of Latina journalists in pivotal moments in history.

Beginning January 12, Pico Rivera will begin holding non-commercial property owners responsible for underage drinking at parties on their properties.
The new law establishes misdemeanor fines for any individual who hosts or allows a noisy or disorderly gathering at a private residence or property.

Ignacio E. Lozano Jr., quien fue editor del diario en español La Opinión de 1953 a 1988, un mecenas de las artes teatrales y embajador de Estados Unidos en El Salvador, falleció el miércoles 27 de diciembre a los 96 años de edad. For Los Angeles congressman Jimmy Gómez, it all started when he showed up earlier this year with his baby son Hodge on the House floor during the marathon-like sessions to pick a House Speaker. The father and son duo’s appearance went viral and caught many eyes.
