My Favourite Trios – 2
Mehfil Mein Meri

Last year in the month of March, I published a Hindi film song list of my favourite trios, that is songs sung by three singers. I restricted myself to the 70s as I wished to publish a separate list of trios from the Hindi films of the 90s and thereafter. The wish however skipped my mind for a long time. But as usual I had a rough long list, which I immediately processed to come up with the final list of songs. The list goes well into the 2000s as well. And one song is from the late 80s as well. The trios enchant me no end! I find it always thrilling to listen to a trio. Three different voices ..read more

Let me first wish all the readers a very happy and prosperous Diwali. May the festival of lights bring joy and happiness in your lives! What could be the best gift for Diwali other than Lata Mangeshkar’s songs! Today I brought just that! Yearly review of Lata Mangeshkar’s Hindi film songs continues on the blog. Today I’m presenting the year 1960. It was the last year in the decade of the 50s. Lata Mangeshkar was still the top most female playback singer of Hindi cinema. It was her 14th year in the Hindi film industry and she managed to be at the top all these years. She was now not singing for ..read more

At a Snap of a Finger!

Though I have named the post, At a snap of A Finger, it wasn’t at all easy for me. A couple of years back, I published a post based on Hindi film songs incorporating the sounds of clapping of hands. I already had a song list with Hindi film songs with the whistle. When I published the former, fellow blogger Anita ji (from the blog, Trivia – the spice of life) added a song where the song had the sounds of clapping of hands and also of snapping of fingers and she mentioned both the things in her comment. In reply to her comment, I added that the sounds of finger snapping could be the next part i ..read more

Enjoying Rain on the Streets!
Mehfil Mein Meri

This monsoon I didn’t post a rain song list. Of course I don’t mean as a blogger I am supposed to publish it yearly, but this year I did plan it. Then I completely forgot about it and got busy with other posts. Now that the monsoon is winding up, it’s high time for me to post it. Initially I was unable to finalize a theme for the song list. While I was wondering about it, a few months back I came across aviral video, that of a past middle aged couple enjoying the rain in Mumbai, enacting the song from Manzil. And bingo, there I did find my theme. Hindi film songs picturised on the streets pref ..read more

Waheeda Rehman, one of the charming actresses of the yesteryears, is obviously one of my favourites. She still maintains grace and dignity and is one of the respectable veterans of Hindi cinema. Last month she was chosen for the highest honour in Indian cinema, the most respected, Dadasaheb Phalke award. To celebrate the occasion, I thought of coming up with a post featuring my favourites picturised on the gorgeous lady. Image courtesy – India times Waheeda Rehman firstly debuted in Telugu films and was spotted by Guru Dutt, who saw a spark in the girl. She was offered a supportive role, actua ..read more

Dil Mera Tera Deewana – Remembering Madhubala Jhaveri

I was planning a tribute post to Madhubala Jhaveri-Chawla for a couple of years. But I couldn’t get around doing it. This year I was determined to do it. Madhubala Jhaveri was a playback singer during the golden era of Hindi film music. She was active for a relatively short period, from 1951 to 1958. Though later she sang for four Hindi films in the 60s, it went unnoticed. Her contribution to Marathi film and non-film songs is well known too. She sang Gujarati songs as well. The number of songs in total are around 110. It’s not a big number, but she’s still remembered for her songs. Though she ..read more

Before I start I must confess I had nothing up my sleeves for today. As I was busy preparing a post to be published next week, I obviously had no post for Asha Bhosle’s 90th birthday celebrations. But destiny fortunately had other plans! A few days back, a regular blog reader Dr Ravindra Shrikhande sent me a rough draft of this post. I was happy to read it and asked him if he wishes to permit me to publish it as a post on the blog. He happily agreed to it. He has always been helpful to me and regular readers of the blog must be well acquainted with his comments. I thank him for the concept of ..read more

Zindagi Khwab Hai – Remembering Mukesh

250th post on the blog Actually I was planning to coincide the 250th post with the 6th anniversary of the blog, but couldn’t manage. Nevertheless, this milestone post is dedicated to a singer who hasn’t yet prominently appeared on the blog. It’s a tribute to Mukesh on his 47th death anniversary. To confess, as a school boy, I wasn’t a fan of Mukesh. Over the period of time, as I dived deep into the ocean of Hindi film songs, I realised the expressions in his voice. What a great singer he was! To listen to a sad song in his voice is an experience. He enchants the listeners, it feels as if he is ..read more

Moods of Night!
Mehfil Mein Meri

This is the second post on the blog to be published in the evening! The first one was the list of lullaby Songs and today I thought it appropriate to publish it in the evening as it talks about the Hindi film songs mentioning the different moods of night! While I was wondering about what next, I thought of giving this theme a try. It was left incomplete for a long time. But instead of going for songs with the word Raat, I thought of the different moods of the night. ‘Raat’ is one of the most commonly used words in Hindi songs and has been used in all sorts of songs, right from lullabies to Muj ..read more
