Happy New Year from WHS! This month, we are delighted to host a guest blog from Lainey Dempsey, a traditional singer from Glasgow. Lainey has specialised in independent interactive arts and theatre for over 20 years. She is a singer and songwriter and frequently works collaboratively with musicians and artists as a vocalist and visual artist. Since 2020, Lainey has been involved in researching traditional songs and stories as well as developing her long-held interest in unaccompanied singing. GWL Fundraising to Win Suffragette Medal at Auction
WHS Steering Committee member Mairi Hamilton has written a timely blog regarding the current campaign to help Glasgow Women’s Library fundraise the purchase of a significant article of Scottish women’s history. We are delighted to announce our new programme for the monthly WHS online socials after the summer break. Our WHS online socials are a fantastic way to connect with other members in a relaxed environment. We share research, rabbit holes, and much more! The refreshed format will allow an hour for an ‘activity’ followed by thirty minutes of informal catching up. All members, new and old, are very welcome.

From the 1960s to the turn of the century, everyone of importance in Scotland knew Dorothy Dunnett (1923 – 2001). We are pleased to announce the winner of the WHS Leah Leneman Essay Prize for 2021 is Dr Lucie Duggan who is currently engaged in postdoctoral research in the Department for the Study of Culture at the University of Southern Denmark.
