Hello from Joff

Hi, Joff here, I’m the founder of Sloemotion Distillery and I just wanted to send you a quick message to say a very Happy New Year and thank you for buying our products! The business began in 2002, almost by accident, when a farming initiative I was working on to improve wildlife habitats resulted in an abundance of sloes. I grew up drinking my father’s home-made Sloe Gin, so an idea began to take shape and Sloemotion Distillery was born! We’ve come a long way since then; expanding our range of liqueurs, then distilling our own spirits and won some prestigious awards along the way. But, thos ..read more

Autumn has arrived in all its glory. Dark evenings, a nip in the air on the first dog walk of the day and the joy of lighting the log burner. Now is the season for our Sloemotion liqueurs; smooth, warming and simply perfect on a chilly day or dark night. We have a hair-raising promotion for the spooky time this October. So if you want your Halloween to be filled with great tasting spirits rather than evil spirits, and for your taste buds to be tingling rather than your spine, take a peek at our Sloe Gin, Bramble Whiskey and Cherry Brandy. The pumpkins have been ..read more

Tennis, Strawberries and a Cocktail

Wimbledon is all about tradition – tennis whites (so bright you need sun glasses to watch them play), strawberries and cream and the code of conduct for the infamous queue (who knew that was a thing?). We want to start a new tradition this year with something new and very exciting. Our Hedgerow Strawberry is a limited-edition, vodka-based drink made with Annabel’s Deliciously British Yorkshire Strawberries, a perfect collaborative product for the summer time. Annabel’s amazingly delicious strawberries are grown just 30 miles away from the Distillery and we only use the “wonkier” fruit to save ..read more

Elderflower Extravaganza

The Summer Solstice may have just passed but the hedgerows and woodlands are still full of the beautiful blossom of the elder tree, with the sweet scent of its fragrant and delicate elderflowers. Elderflower is a late spring and summer flower, come August it begins to produce rich, dark elderberries that can be harvested to make elderberry wine. The white, frothy elderflowers tend to bloom in late May, and June is typically the best time of year to collect them as the flowers are at their freshest. The petals are small and clustered, but form a broad umbrella that is enticingly scented, like a ..read more

The great British summer – we’re hoping for long sunny days and warm balmy evenings. This year, International Picnic Day falls on Sunday 18th June, so it’s also a great reason to spoil Dad and take him into the great outdoors to enjoy some food and drink all together. A picnic doesn’t need to be complicated; it could be as simple as taking your sandwich outside to eat on your lunch break, or as extravagant as a giant outdoor party with friends and family. Grab your blanket, pack up your basket, and off you go! This summer, we’ve launched Hedgerow Strawberry, a limited-edition, vodka-based prod ..read more

Dog Rose Flower

The Dog Rose is a climbing wild rose with beautiful white-pink flowers and a soft subtle scent. You can see the gorgeous petals in hedgerows, scrub and woodland edges right now. Once pollinated, generally by insects, the fruit ripens in September and October. Dog rose flowers are an important nectar source for insects, and its fruits are a food source for birds such as blackbirds, redwings and waxwings. Its deep orange-red fruit, the rosehip, is the most commonly used part of the plant, although dog rose has many other uses in food and medicine. Rosehips have been used ..read more

Hedgerow Strawberry is a limited-edition, vodka-based product made with Annabel’s Deliciously British Yorkshire Strawberries, a perfect collaborative product for this time of year. Annabel’s amazingly, delicious strawberries are grown only 30 miles from the Distillery and we only use the “wonky” fruit which might otherwise go to waste. It’s a delightfully light, fresh and fruity tipple, best served with tonic or a mixer such as sparkling Elderflower. It is also a great addition to a summer fruit punch; and at 30% is lower in alcohol than most other spirits but still big on a fruity strawberry ..read more

Foraging for Nettles
Sloemotion Distillery Blog

In 2016 we went back to the hedges where we first got inspiration for our Sloe Gin; we wanted to make an even more superior and super special gin base for our signature product. On the basis of “what grows together goes together” we started looking at what else we could find in the hedgerow to add flavours to our products. As we all know nettles are super-abundant, but did you know they are also super-tasty? We tried them in the batches for what became Hedgerow Gin and they worked well and became one of our six hedgerow botanicals, used in the distillation of all our Hedgerow Spirits. We star ..read more
