Christmas is here! Along with a cold snap and a dump of snow to complete the whole festive package. This chilly weather has my family tucked snugly indoors, drooling about the meal we had last week at Flavours Restaurant. We were so grateful to be invited by the owner, Bola Esan, to stop in for an early dinner on a snowy December evening. Once we got settled with our wiggly two-year-old in a cozy booth, Bola and her husband began raining a dizzying amount of hospitality on our heads. Sweet Fried Puff Puff (and bonus toy swords) Knowing their toddler audience, we were first served a plate of pu ..read more

Calgary, you’re in for a real treat! Foodies in the Park, the pet project of Great Events, will be launching a pop-up dining series this year starting with a thematic dining experience taking you on a journey through the world of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland! They invited bloggers and members of the media out for a first taste of the carefully crafted experience. I squeezed my body into nylons and a black dress for the first time since giving birth two months ago and headed out into the night!   I was very intrigued to be invited to an event centered around a plated four-course din ..read more

I’m back after taking some time out to bring a new baby into the world. Matt pointed out that this now means I’m a mommy blogger (!) but I hope to keep turning out the same hip, cool content I did before I became a parent. Please don’t ever hesitate to let me know if I’m losing my edge! Matt and I always find ourselves trying to scale back on the elements of our diet that balloon out of control, especially when we’ve been eating out a lot and trying to create content for the blog. Yes, I love foods that are deep fried, animal-based, sodium-rich, buttered and soaked in whipping cream, but I als ..read more

Hello all! Sorry, I know it’s been a while! I won’t waste precious time with you on excuses, just know that I’m refreshed and ready to get back at it! What better way to celebrate my new start than with some Canadian-made ice cream! I was so thrilled to be approached for a partnership with Prairie West Ice Cream, a family-owned business based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They’re a well-established ice cream maker with a long-standing lineup of favourite Canadian classics like Neapolitan, Maple and Cotton Candy, to name a few. I love that their ice creams are made with Canadian milk in a designa ..read more

Despite my best efforts, I ended up with a sports fanatic for a husband – the Flames, Raptors, Blue Jays, Broncos, Stampeders… how could anyone choose? In his spare time, he manages his multiple fantasy teams, plays hockey or baseball on various gaming platforms and sifts through online forums for “news” (read: “gossip”) about his favourite players. I try to listen and be a “cool wife”, but honestly my interest usually only extends as far as the snacks. I get so excited when he wants to watch the Superbowl with me because it means I have his endorsement to purchase and melt an extravagant amou ..read more

Is it killer lady entrepreneur week at Hungry in Calgary or what? I have a very important new business alert to share with you all! Meet BFF Cookies, the jumbo cookie service that takes orders throughout the week, bakes small batches over the weekend and delivers them right to your door the following Monday. When I first heard the business concept and was offered a free sample, I thought “Okay, I’m interested, but why only Mondays?” Then this happened: These were hand-delivered to me in my office building last week and I was NOT prepared for a box loaded with heavy, hearty cookies crusted in ..read more

We were overdue for a double date with our friends, Zach and Nicole, and conveniently had been invited by TopDish.ca to Little Chief, a restaurant located in the Tsuut’ina Nation-operated Grey Eagle Resort & Casino. None of us had tried them before, so away we went with no expectations and big appetites. We had been given a credit for approximately one round of drinks, so we were quite interested to take a look at their bar menu. They had options from all over the world, of course, but I particularly loved seeing their selection of local beers like Calgary’s Wild Rose a ..read more

You may have seen on social media or on previous blog posts that I’ve been doing a bit of collaboration with TopDish.ca – things like submitting photos and ratings, winning gift cards in their draws (!) and most recently partnering with them to highlight some of Calgary’s unsung culinary gems. Top Dish recently partnered with Scarpetta Italian Eatery to invite a few local bloggers and social media influencers to try out their menu and let them know what we think about the restaurant! I was thrilled to participate, as this is a place I’d already enjoyed once for a big group lunch with ..read more
