Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. CQ Brown said he is confident that U.S. troops working to provide humanitarian aid to residents of Gaza will be protected from violence in the region. Brown’s comments come amid concerns from Senate Republicans that the mission could cost American military lives. “Force protection is at the top of our list any time we put our forces in harm’s way,” Brown told reporters during a press event on Thursday. “There will be our own capabilities to protect our forces, the Israelis have also committed to help protect our forces in the area, and have other nations that are als ..read more

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The U.S. Navy is heading into a major test of a hypersonic weapon that will help determine the way ahead for a joint development program with the U.S. Army, according to the Army’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office director. “The Navy is moving forward on their test, which isn’t a launch out of ground support equipment, but just off a stool launch, so we get another look at the missile,” Lt. A Navy warship took out four long-range air drones that were headed toward the vessel early Wednesday in the Red Sea, according to U.S. Central Command. The command did not identify the ship involved, and multiple Navy destroyers have spent recent months there intercepting drones and missiles on a near-daily basis that were fired by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. All the Houthi-US Navy incidents in the Middle East (that we know of) Wednesday’s incident took place over 20 minutes starting at 2 a.m. local time, according to CENTCOM. More than 249,000 veterans will receive part of the $6 billion lawsuit settlement against 3M as part of the Combat Arms Earplug settlement announced in 2023, corporate officials announced. The figure represents more than 99% of all of the claimants who filed suit against the manufacturing company, accusing them of causing hearing damage in troops through faulty production of military-grade hearing protection. The earplugs, produced by Aearo Technologies before that company was bought by 3M in 2008, were sold from 1999 to 2015 and used extensively by troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, as ..read more

by Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti

Women’s History Month is a time to acknowledge and honor the advancements made by and for Navy women: active and reserve, retired and veteran, uniformed and civilian. Our Navy is a learning organization, with a long list of leaders who opened paths of opportunity for me and the more than 134,000 women serving in our Navy today. One of those leaders whose policies expanded the opportunities for Navy women was Adm. Elmo R. “Bud” Zumwalt, our 19th chief of naval operations, who led our sea service from 1970 to 1974. Zumwalt inspired me to write this article to highlight the unique leadership and ..read more

Even with a full arsenal of energy drinks and coffee rations, the U.S. military is still losing the war against sleepiness. Despite promises from military leaders to address a lack of sleep among service members, most troops still fail to get enough rest each night to fully function at their posts, researchers warned in a report released this week. “Fatigue and sleep deprivation among active-duty service members continues to be more the rule than the exception,” investigators from the Government Accountability Office wrote in findings released to Congress on March 26. “Impairment from fatigue ..read more

The U.S. Army is launching an investigation after a National Guard unit posted a photo to its official Instagram account this week that showed a service member with a patch that appears to depict a Nazi SS Totenkopf, a specific skull-and-crossbones image that was adopted by Adolf Hitler’s elite corps. The 20th Special Forces Group, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, posted the photo Sunday along with the caption, “That weekend feeling. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Don’t stop training. Don’t get complacent.” The post was then deleted after it garnered comments criticizing the patch, which ..read more
