Warning – this is a long post!!! I first stepped foot in a NICU in 1994 as a shadowing high school student, rotated in the NICU as a medical student 2001, and started my NICU fellowship at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, 17 year ago in 2006. Next week will be my last week working as a neonatologist -- I am transitioning to a full-time position as a telemedicine pediatrician with Blueberry Pediatrics this fall, and I hope to continue to build my 4th Trimester home-visiting practice. What have I loved the most about being a neonatologist? • My thousan ..read more

"It's Just a Virus"

I’ve written this article for parents of older children. If you have a newborn, please make sure your baby is seen by a doctor in person if they have any symptoms of infection and/or a temperature of 100.4F or higher. I’ve lost count of how many times parent have expressed frustration that they’ve brought their child to be seen by their pediatrician and been told their child has a virus. In many cases parents share that they feel like their doctor should have “done something more” during their child’s sick visit. If I ask what they mean by this, they often say that they had hoped for an antib ..read more

I’m excited to announce that Primrose just celebrated her 4th birthday and it’s time to rebrand. By the end of this year I’ll be formally changing my pediatric and lactation practice’s name from Primrose Newborn Care to Primrose Infant Health and Wellness. This is to represent that I am able to take care of all babies (not just newborns) and to reflect the holistic approach I use in the care of all of my infant patients. There will be more to come in upcoming months. I also have plans to expand my services in 2023 to include the following: In-home blood testing for jaundice Hospital-grade ..read more

As a newborn medicine physician and lactation consultant I discuss baby formula and supplementing all of the time. I had a really difficult time finding unbiased baby formula information last year that was not funded by formula companies. I created my own iOS app called the “Baby Formula Guide” in 2021. This has been a free resource in the Apple app store since last spring. It is unfortunately temporarily unavailable as it needs updated (and I cannot find the time and $ to do this right now). I am sharing the comprehensive baby formula database that I created to be the backbone of my Baby Form ..read more

Despite what some people believe, baby formulas are not all the same! I am excited to announce that I am now partnering with bobbie - a brand new, 100% organic, domestic baby formula created by moms who totally “get” what it can be like to struggle with breastfeeding and pumping. bobbie has a similar recipe to European baby formulas (like Hipp and Holle) but it is FDA approved for babies 0-12 months old and made in Vermont. I would have used this infant formula in a heartbeat to supplement my kids had it been available at the time! Please follow this link for more information and purchasing ..read more
