A freshly completed dagger with a pronounced ricasso and reinfirced point. It has carved steel fittings and German silver accents. The byknives include a small utility blade and bodkin pricker. Everything is nestled into a laminated leather and wood scabbard with tooled fac, roped edges and a fabricated/ carved steel chape. This one includes an integrated hang point in the welt.                   A full description at: https://www.wintercutlery.com/product/germanic-16th-c-rosette-dagger-set/200 ..read more

Finished this one and it's ready to ship out. I just need to take some good photos this weekend. 8" by 2" clayed 1095 blade. Water buffalo horn bolster, stainless steel spacer and Buckeye burl handle with nickel-silver pin. This is the best Hamon I have ever gotten out of 1095 steel. As always, comments and criticism is welcome.     ..read more

First foray into pattern damascus

Started a pattern and I'm not really happy with the results so far. It's coming out WAY to busy for my taste. What is the standard for counting layers? Do you count each separate piece, (logically so) or each separate type of metal? Started with 12 1084 and 12 15n20. By my count, I'm up to 2208 layers with one more weld for the tiles. I'm making a few different sized knives from the billet, so I have a different count of tiles in them, but I ended up with 18 tiles. Would that add up to 39k+ layers if all welded together?   I think going forward, I'll make the first stack far fewer separat ..read more

I thought I had 126 layer, but I'm not seeing that in the blade. Maybe lost track I dunno. Triple dyed maple burl.  I haven't been doing this a real long time. I can't make em super fancy yet. But I put a lot of time and love into this one. This is going to be a giveaway knife to one of my friends that I  promised a knife to when I first started this journey a couple years back.. just haven't had the time you get in the forge.. hope you like it ..read more
