Trains are in my DNA. My maternal grandfather worked for Canadian National Railway for almost 50 years, spending his weeks riding the rails across Canada, painting train stations from coast to coast. He and my grandmother raised their family in a railway employee house that was just metres from the train tracks in my hometown. My grandfather’s stories of his adventures—which took him from Halifax to Vancouver—were magic to a starry-eyed wannabe wanderer.

Pod travel, where a group of friends or family take a trip together, is having a profound effect on how people vacation during the COVID-era. Travelling with family and friends had occurred pre-pandemic for reasons such as budget and convenience. While today, travelling in pods is more about safety and shared interests. By staying with the same group and guides throughout the trip, members don’t mingle with other people, thus reducing their risk of exposure to the virus. Travelling with your pod is a smart way to travel safely.
