Some of you may wonder if games such as iRacing, Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2, or these from F1 series are playable with gamepad. Most simracing games allow you to play on a controller (although sometimes you will have to fiddle around with the settings a bit). Controllers are much cheaper than professional steering wheels, and they don’t require that much space, but are there as good as steering wheels when it comes to simracing games? In this post, I’ll cover: Can you become a Good Simracer while playing only with a Controller? While in some games you can be fast playing with a controller, it’s ..read more

What monitor size is ideal for Sim Racing?
Sim Racing Blog

The monitor size is kind of a preference thing. It should depend mostly on how far you are from the screen. In other words, the further away you are from the monitor, the larger the screen you need. There are some FOV Calculators on the internet, so you can calculate the in-game FOV and achieve good immersion at almost every monitor size. From my experience, I’d say get at least a 21-inch monitor. While there are even players who play on 60-inch monitors, I’d say 32-inch is somewhere in the middle and should be a sweet spot I’d recommend if you have no idea what size to get. In most cases, it ..read more

Is iRacing good for Beginners?
Sim Racing Blog

At the beginning of the sim racing adventure, in addition to the basic equipment, we also need to have at least one sim racing game. One of the most popular and best games in this genre is of course iRacing. However, as you may know, this game is played by many pro players, real racing drivers, and everything is taken quite seriously there. So is it a good choice for a beginner sim racer? I will try to answer this question, as well as several others, in this post. Can a beginner play iRacing? Technically, yes. There is no test to pass or something like that. You buy the game, install it, and y ..read more

Is it worth to listen to music while Sim Racing?
Sim Racing Blog

Real racing drivers don’t listen to music during the race. It definitely has sense, but in the virtual, we can allow ourselves to make more fun because listening to music isn’t forbidden. But is it really worth it? I will try to answer it in this post, so let’s move on. Can you focus on Sim Racing with music? It depends on the genre and on the specific person. I usually can focus, but not with every song. I was playing for many hours with my favorite songs, and my lap times weren’t worse than the usual ones. I also didn’t notice any lack in my consistency, but I’ve felt like I’ve been driving ..read more

Do you have to pay for iRacing?

Are you wondering if you need to pay for iRacing? When I first started my sim racing journey, I was wondering too. I had quite a limited budget due to many expenses such as steering wheel, pedals, etc. In this post, I’ll try to cover some of the most asked questions when it comes to paying for iRacing. Can you play iRacing for free? Unfortunately, no. Most Sim Racing games are paid, and iRacing isn’t different. Actually this game has quite a unique payment model, because you can “buy” iRacing for a really cheap price, but only for some time. It’s a subscription-based game, so you need to pay f ..read more

Want to be the best? Train like the best. There are many sim racing games out there, but which one exactly do pros use? Well, that depends. You can meet pros in games such as iRacing, Assetto Corsa, rFactor, rFactor 2, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Automobilista, Automobilista 2, and different games. There is no rule. To be fair, you can meet them in almost every sim racing game. Almost every popular sim racing game was tried by some pro racing drivers from real life. We saw some drivers from Formula 1 in rFactor 2, iRacing, and more games. But what games are most popular amongst pros? Here’s ho ..read more

How long do Sim Races last?
Sim Racing Blog

My guess is that two types of people came to this post: People who don’t have much time for playing, and sometimes they just want to jump into the game for a few minutes. The exact opposite, i.e. people who love long-distance racing and wonder if they can try, for example, a 24-hour race in a Sim Racing game. TLDR: both groups should be satisfied. You can play endurance races almost every day, or enjoy short sessions that will take you several minutes. It’s your choice. How long are the Sim Races? There’s no such statistic because it may vary depending on the game, league, car category, and ..read more

Perhaps you dream of getting a chance in real racing or in the esports sim racing scene. While I don’t advise you to wait idly for “maybe it will work happen someday” in this post, I will show you a few ways to get others to notice your sim racing talent. In the beginning, a few words about me, because who am I at all to write about this topic? I am not and have never been involved in sim racing professionally. During the few years of being a sim racer, I’ve played about a thousand hours. Believe it or not, that’s not much. I have, however, two experiences that have taught me a little: Almost ..read more

Have I already told you that sim racing is for almost everyone? Our favorite Sim Racing games have many fans, but we have different preferences. Some of them are racers, some are drifters, and some, are hot lappers. While hot lapping is actually part of racing, the topic is so interesting that there are a lot of players who have fallen in love with this element. In this post, I will tell you a bit more about it. Hot Lapping is a part of racing In the vast majority of known racing series, starting positions are determined by qualifying time. What takes place during them is hot lapping, which ba ..read more

How big is the sim racing community?
Sim Racing Blog

Personally, I hate hobbies that are not popular. Practicing them seems pointless to me, because then I have no one to talk to about it, and, more importantly, I have no one to compete with. Fortunately, sim racing is a relatively popular hobby, and most importantly, it seems to be growing year by year. As you can clearly see, interest in sim racing has almost tripled in the last five years! At least in Google search. Personally, I think Sim Racing will continue to grow for two simple reasons: Motorsport is becoming more and more popular. Formula 1, for example, seems to be opening up more an ..read more
