What Happened To The Studio?

Earlier this year I made the tough decision to move out of the studio space I’ve been working in since 2020. There were a variety of boring reasons behind the move, but the biggest factors were 1) the economics of the deal were changing and 2) my childcare responsibilities made it difficult to get to the studio outside of normal office hours. Scintillating stuff!  At the time I couldn’t find alternative accommodation that suited my needs, so I took the decision to move my equipment home and create a space in the house, with all of the compromises that entailed. The big upside however was ..read more

A Rare Moment of Self Awareness

If you’re interested enough to read this then it probably hasn’t escaped your notice that my approach to creating videos has changed dramatically over the last couple of years. The frequency of upload has slowed considerably and the types of video I make have shifted as well.  For the first few years of the channel my focus was on what I would describe as editorial content, with the vast majority of the output focussing on discussions of various aspects of sim racing, mod content, with how-to videos and guides mixed in. But, as the channel grew I became inundated with opportunities to wor ..read more

Sim Racing Field of View

In case it had escaped your knowledge, you aren’t a part of your screen*, your position in a racing sim is represented by an in game camera, which like all cameras has a defined field of view. Sim racing field of view is weirdly misunderstood subject, but it boils down to this: You can and should alter the specifications of the in-game camera to provide the most advantageous view from the meatspace into the sim world.  I did a video on the subject a couple of years ago, but honestly reading the rest of the article is probably quicker! If the camera is your eyes in the game world, and you ..read more

The Porsche 908 in Assetto Corsa: You Should Drive

As a YouTuber I often feel compelled to make content about new releases, because new is always exciting. But, is new always better? Well, no, and this series is as much an effort to demonstrate some fantastic sim racing cars as it is to break away from the cycle of new-release madness – starting with one of my favourite cars in Assetto Corsa, the Porsche 908 Long Tail. It’s fitting that I should start this series with the Porsche 908 in Assetto Corsa, since it was this car that compelled me to take my first steps in online video. That edit never saw the light of day, but it did start somethi ..read more

Fanatec Mclaren GT3 Wheel V2 Review

Fanatec were kind enough to send me the new Mk2 Mclaren GT3 rim over the weekend ahead of it’s release today. That means I’ve only had a few days with the wheel, so let’s treat this video as a first impressions affair, rather than any sort of in depth review. And for the sake of disclosure, I’m also a member of the Fanatec affiliate program, though there are no links on this post, so we’re all good! The original McLaren rim from Fanatec was extremely popular, but as many of you are probably aware, there were a couple of issues that began to crop up relating to the shifters, and the simplified ..read more

Here’s my preview of the 2020 GT World Challenge DLC for Assetto Corsa Competizione. Included are countless physics updates and new content in the form of Imola and the 2020 versions of the AMG GT3 and Ferrari 488. 2020 Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari Arguably, Imola is the big ticket item in the 2020 GT World Challenge DLC. The real world venue is legendary, and holds a significant place in motorsport history, both good and bad. So, unsurprisingly it’s a bit of a staple choice in many sims. On the previous Kunos version in Assetto Corsa, I always felt like I needed to baby the c ..read more

The Worst Corners In Sim Racing
Chris Haye Sim Racing

Simple premise, here’s a video highlighting the worst corners in sim racing, as voted by the community. They’re an interesting bunch, and certainly about as popular as the tarmac runoff that surrounds them, or fashion tips from F1 drivers with more than 90 race wins. I want to ‘thank’, yeah, ‘thank’ is definitely  the right word Mike (Simracing604) for publicly peer-pressuring me into making this video. I have to admit, it was actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be.  ..read more

The RSS Formula 1990 V12 Assetto Corsa Mod

The RSS Formula 1990 V12 Assetto Corsa Mod; some might suggest that it bears a passing resemblance to the Ferrari 641 Formula 1 car. Not me though, I wouldn’t suggest such a thing. As for the car, well the driving dynamics are really evocative of the era. There’s lot’s of power, wide tyres and sophisticated, but not yet ridiculous aerodynamics. They produced decent lap times, but in cars that were still a challenge to drive – despite electronic driver aids starting to creep into the cars. The real car, whatever that may be, was the first to feature traction control, albeit in a very crude st ..read more

What’s The Best F1 Racing Sim?

Today, I’m posing the question, what’s the best F1 racing sim? Do the ‘hardcore’ racing simulators do a good enough job of replicating the F1 experience? So then, if F1 2019 isn’t the best F1 racing sim, what is ..read more

What Is Sim Racing?
Chris Haye Sim Racing

With the help of the awesome sim racing community, I’ve been able to realise a project that I’ve wanted to make for a long time. It’s tough to express what sim racing is, and why it matters to me, and others in the community, but I hope I’ve captured some of that here. So, this is my love letter to sim racing, whatever that is? Sim racing is real. But it’s also unreal. For some, it’s the ultimate simulation, for others it’s just a game, and every variation of that sentiment in between. For some of us, it’s a career, others a hobby and a creative outlet. And there’s nothing unreal about that ..read more
