I've previously hired a car when going back to the UK for holidays / visits, but given the fact that that they are now so expensive, and also that my elderly Mum has just stopped driving,, I'm thinking for my next visit I could borrow her car to get around in. It's taxed, MOT'd etc, but I would need to sort out insurance. One option is to get my mum to put me on her insurance, or alternatively there are companies that offer short term policies. I put some details into one of these company's online quote generator and it asked me what type of licence I had - UK Full, UK Provisional or Inte ..read more

Why do they sell you water bottles in dubai transit and then take it off you when you try and get on the plane? I'm sure they just resell it to the next mug. Next time, I'll take an empty bottle on board with me and fill it from the dispenser ..read more

Hi, We are travellign to Scotland for Christmas, 2 adults and one toddler. We have 2 hours between landing and take off (if all goes to schedule). We;ve done this trip a thousand times and no issues finding our way to the next flight, but we've never done it with a toddler before and wondering if the meet and greet service is worth it? It seems to offer collection on arrival, implies priority transfer through security etc (is it priority?) and taken straight to the departure gate. Has anyone used this service to transfer between flights and if so, was it worth it? The only reason we're conside ..read more

Using dual passports to travel to Vietnam

We are dual UK/Aus citizens with both passports living in SA. We are off to Vietnam next year. I note that although Australian citizens require a visa US$50 each  (multi entry as we are nipping to Bangkok whilst there) that UK citizens do not. So as a tight arse married to a Yorkshireman……can we wrangle the passports in such a way to avoid visa and obey Aus requirements. Im thinking that check ins and passport control are separate so we check in with airline on UK passport but exit on Aus one this end and arrive in Vietnam on UK one. I’m assuming we will have to leave on UK one to get exi ..read more

Hi guys, I’m currently living in Hobart, TAS after moving from the UK with my partner. We came here as she has family here so it made it easier to settle in and stay somewhere during the initial process. We are now looking to the future and at some point in the next 12 or so months, we would like to relocate to the mainland.    I am aware that we are looking for may not exist but would appreciate and knowledge people have to offer! Essentially what we are looking for, is Gold Coast vibes, but safer and less noisy. We want the warm weather, so potentially somewhere in Queensland ..read more

Hi, We emigrate to QLD from the UK next month, and  we're massive  Disney fans and have made several trips to Florida over the last 2 decades. Has anyone made the trip to Florida from the Eastcoast of Australia? I know you can fly 13 hours to California, but Disney California is not  Florida. I've been checking flights, and you can fly via Dallas or San francisco.   Regardless of which city we fly too it's a good d20-24hr trip to get their. Thanks for reading ..read more

Passports

I'm contemplating renewing our British passports, but not really fussed! Although we do like to travel a bit we have Australian passports. I'm aware some countries you pay a tourist or temporary visa fee and others you don't dependent on your passport. So my question is what countries do you pay visa fees on an Aussie passport and which ones on a British? For example, I believe you don't require a visa on a British passport when going to Vietnam, but you do with an Australian passport ..read more

Does anyone have experience of flying with Sri Lankan airlines and / or having a short stopover there? Flying Melbourne to London Heathrow, mainly interested as the flights are 9.5/10 hours and 10.5 hours so more evenly split. It will be 2 adults travelling with a 4 year old.  We went with Singapore airlines last year, which was good but their prices really seem to have gone up a lot this year.   Thanks  ..read more
