DDL | Archive The infamous live action adaptation of Sailor M_ _n that aired on Japanese TV… what, 20 years ago?! The one with idols and talking plushies. Most of the episodes floating around online seem to be encoded at 30fps, but much like Phase 1 Heisei KR, this show used early digital cameras that shot at a smooth frame rate of 60fps. Early 00s plastic flip phones! The creator of the original manga had more direct involvement, and even called it her favorite adaptation. ~Info Video: 8-bit x264, CRF18 (Preset: Slower) 720×540 (Anamorphic 4:3), CFR 30fps Audio: Japanese, 2 Channels, A ..read more

[18+] Tomomi Akimoto’s Graduation

Thanks to: nameinuyotchan DDL | Archive This was mentioned in the previous post, but rather than dealing with laserdiscs myself, I found a decent quality laserdisc rip of Tomomi’s “Graduation” on the website formerly known as Twitter, split into 13 parts and stitched back together here. The story is about a student’s crush on her teacher. Released by Cosmos Plan in 1987. Indeed, Mr. Saitoh did. The drama-like narrative production style Makoto Saitoh was known for is still present. There is a more traditional AV scene in here, but it’s still conservative, and the mosaic censorship is so heavy ..read more

DDL | Archive Contains nudity and non-graphic sexual expressions. More vintage Cosmos comfy Plan. First, I made a mistake about the director’s name, it’s actually Makoto Saitoh, not Sakai. This video was released in 1989 and stars Tomomi Akimoto, and it’s a pretty straight love/romance story. Again, what’s notable about Sakai Saitoh is his ability to tell stories from a pure visual perspective without many spoken lines, almost like an image video. He perfectly capture the aesthetics and feel of the bubble period. Unfortunately, a lot of his movies seem to be laserdisc exclusives, and I’m not ..read more

DDL Non-adult re-edit of Samuraiger (TOR-54) released on DVD in 2005 and starring Momoe Mizusawa. Yes, a certain adult video producer predated the triangle company in doing a Samurai-themed Sentai. The JAV portions of the film have been removed to avoid issues with Archive’s moderation. Note the Star Wars toy lightsabers and unlicensed Gorenger BGM. ~Info Video: 8-bit x264, CRF20 (Preset: Slower) 720×540 (Anamorphic 4:3), CFR 60fps Audio: Japanese, 2 Channels, AAC, 128kbps Subtitles: None Source: DVD5 ..read more

Wulululu! Old German-dubbed TV recording of Green With Evil (first part only) from its initial 1994 local broadcast. Something that technically should’ve been posted in tribute to JDF after his passing, but I didn’t, so I’m posting it now. Although anything PR-related on a site specifically dedicated to Japanese tokusatsu (regardless, I just post random shit sometimes) may equate to heresy in the eyes of some people, it might appeal to some people’s 90s nostalgia. ~He who must not be named. ~Info Video: 8-bit x264, CRF19,50 (Preset: Slower) 720×480 (Anamorphic 4:3), CFR 25fps Audio: Ger ..read more

DDL 1990 original video pink film directed by Makoto Sakai and starring Ai Komori about a female student’s struggles with bullying and sexual harassment. Keep in mind that it’s pink, not JAV, so all the naughty bits are non-graphic (think late night TV flicks). What’s more impressive is that it manages to tell quite a bit of story using little to no dialogue. I really like Sakai’s/Cosmos Plan’s directional style. The song sung by Komori’s character at the end is Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter by Shigeru Izumiya. ~Info Video: 8-bit x264, CRF19,50 (Preset: Slower) 720×480 (Anamorphic 4 ..read more

DDL 1988 original video drama directed by Makoto Sakai and starring Chiyuki Makimoto. The story takes great inspiration from the famous novel The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and Nobuyoshi Araki’s film rendition in particular. Although the original story had adult content, this is an all-ages, worksafe (mostly) re-edit. Another note is that the VHSRip unfortunately suffers from the same visual issues as Pretty Executor, meaning the image being too dark. The capture gear I use has no option to turn up contrast, so please excuse that. ~Info Video: 8-bit x264, CRF19 (Preset: Slower) 640×48 ..read more

Thanks to: geo9875 Website | Archive Long time no see! Rest assured, I’m not dead. Contrary to some assumptions, this site has always been run by a single guy. The previous year hasn’t been exactly the kindest to me personally, so there haven’t been any posts in a while. I apologize for that. Well, what better way to deal with mental health than sub a show focusing on that theme? I fell in love with this series when I first discovered it a year ago. It was one of the most popular late night dramas of the bubble period, and is a beloved classic among members of the Japanese Gen X, but it’s com ..read more
