This amazing senior wanted a local senior portrait session with Mount Si in the background, so we had it right here in the Snoqualmie Valley! And after having to reschedule a couple of times on account of weather, we finally lucked out with a warm, dry day – record-breaking warmth for March, as a matter of fact! We had great time exploring the area, including the old (former) railroad bridge crossing the Snoqualmie River. She brought along some great props, including her saddle (originally we were going to include her horse, but that didn’t work out, so we did the next best thing!), awesome c ..read more

I met up with this beautiful family of three and their extended family at the Washington Arboretum in Seattle on a recent warm spring day when all of the cherry blossoms were in peak bloom. It was their baby boy’s first professional photography session! Doing my usual pre-scouting before the session (something I always do before sessions, even for locations I go to all the time), I counted about 15-20 photoshoots all happening within a relatively small space, primarily clustered around each and every cherry blossom tree! Yes, it was crazy crowded! While such crowds do present challenges when ..read more

Seattle Senior Portrait Photographer | James Thomas Long Photography | Pacific Northwest Forest Session!

This amazing senior wanted his senior portraits in a Pacific Northwest forest, with plenty of trees and water too. So we opted to meet up at a location that would have both, a location that I actually drive by all the time, but hadn’t really explored yet. It was absolutely awesome! It never ceases to amaze me how much natural beauty the Pacific Northwest has. And while Olympic National Park gets most of the “Northern Rainforest” accolades, the western slopes of the Cascades are incredibly similar and arguably just as beautiful, full of mossy trees, ferns, and mountains looming above. This loc ..read more

Snoqualmie Senior Portrait Photographer | James Thomas Long Photography | In the Snow at Snoqualmie Pass!

This amazing senior wanted his portraits in the snow! In fact, when his Mom reached out to me to set up his session, the first thing she mentioned about him was that he loves the snow! And truth be told, I love the snow too! In fact, winter has always been my favorite season (by far – the others are not even close, although I do love fall as well)! So, we made the short drive up to the pass where plenty of new snow had recently fallen and it was perfect! He brought some of his hockey gear as well, along with their dog who seemed to like the snow just about as much as he did! We had a super fu ..read more

I think this lovely family of ten may just be the largest single family I’ve photographed thus far, and that is saying something because I’ve photographed quite a number of families over the 14+ years I’ve been a full-time photographer! And while it’s always a challenge trying to keep everyone in a large group engaged, especially when it’s cold and when you’ve got young kids and older kids too, nevertheless, we rocked it out there on a that chilly morning! Everything worked out perfectly, which was especially awesome since this was the last holiday season they’d all be together for a while, w ..read more

I’m always up for a little adventure in the mountains and late fall just before the snow arrives is always one of my favorite times for mountain adventure sessions. And that’s exactly what we did for this amazing senior! He’s an avid snowboarder, so we originally were planning to incorporate that, but the late arrival of snow to the area this season forced us to change our plans a bit. But we rocked it nonetheless! I loved his casual style intermingled with the tree stumps and snow-covered mountains in the background! It was a bit chilly that day, especially with some icy wind whipping throug ..read more

I love the moody vibes we got for this amazing senior’s session! The Forest Service closed the road leading into this place for all motor vehicles, so we had to hike in a ways to get there, but it was absolutely worth it! The last remnants of fall colors were still present and the snow level hadn’t quite dropped to pass level yet, so it was perfect timing for stunning scenery! I love shooting among all of those cool-looking stumps! His earthy fall tones worked well in our setting and we even got to capture some images with him and their family dog Boomer, which was awesome! He is such a wonde ..read more

Who doesn’t love being hoisted up in the air by Dad! What a cutie pie this little guy is! He loved playing with the leaves and gave us some absolutely adorable expressions too! I love how he made such a funny face when he held up a brown, shriveled up leaf! You’ll have to scroll down towards the end of this post for that one! We even got to box him up for a little bit and he was doing some early standing on his own! And with those fall colors in the background, we had some great backdrops to work with for sure! I loved how he could get all snuggly with his Mom one moment and then playfully sm ..read more

Here is another lovely family photography session from last fall (and there are a bunch more coming too)! I met up with this wonderful family of four at a park and had a great time exploring and playing with the leaves! Their little guy loved the wagon I brought along and I also happened to have a bucket that was the perfect size for their baby girl to fit in too! Oh yes, and we did lots of swinging too! Thank you all for the wonderful session! You have such a beautiful family and it was a pleasure spending the afternoon with you ..read more

Every Senior portrait session I photograph is uniquely customized just for that Senior. From location planning, to outfits, mood, posing, etc., I talk with each senior before their session to hear their point of view and learn about the things that interest them, so that I can capture their unique personality. Nothing is cookie cutter. And throughout the session, we explore and find all sorts of interesting light, color compositions, and creative ways of interacting with the elements around us, all the while chatting, laughing, and just having a great time out there. And so for this sen ..read more
