Frying Pan River   Flow: 152cfs/below Ruedi Reservoir Conditions: In great fishable shape with low and clear water! Just as most freestone fisheries are succumbing to runoff, the Frying Pan begins to really turn-on. Longer and warmer days are providing improved fishing and longer windows of opportunity. Midge hatches are dependable most days and numbers of rising fish can now be seen. Look for the best dry fly fishing to take place above mile marker 6. During warmer, overcast days even the lower river is seeing good hatches though. BWOs are gaining in numbers as the midge hatch starts to ..read more

Though we might still see a few days of fishable conditions and improved clarity, you’ll have to be a local or get lucky with your timing to take advantage. Typical spring hatches of caddis, BWOs and stoneflies will be seen from now through runoff. Highwater favorites including worms, eggs, stones and streamers will be your best friends for a little while here. If you’re in the area and still wanting to fish, the upper Roaring Fork and ..read more

Crystal River – Flow: 287 cfs/Redstone, 378 cfs/Carbondale Conditions: Spring has sprung – the Crystal has variable water conditions dependent on the weather. Cool spells can yield windows of fishable conditions. One can expect the usual spring BWO, caddis and stonefly hatches. Of course, the worm and streamer bite can be good at times too. As the waters continue to rise with spring runoff, look for any pockets of soft water to hold fish. In general, better fishing can be had on the Upper Roaring Fork and Frying Pan rivers right now. As always, feel free to give us a call for daily river cond ..read more

After a few slow weeks recently, the fishing has really turned back on with the cooler weather. BWOs are the name of the game in the way of hatches and fly imitations. November is the big spawning month for the rivers resident brown trout and whitefish. That said, the streamer and egg fishing has been improving each and every day. The window is short and the fishing will taper off in few weeks – get in ..read more

Flow: 63cfs/below Ruedi Reservoir Conditions: Flows have decreased to their winter levels. The river is obviously very low and very clear. After a banner September and slower October, the fishing has picked back up with dependable hatches of BWOs and midges. The crowds of summer are finally gone too and anglers can again find some elbow room.  Overcast and warm afternoons are yielding the heaviest hatches. Light tippets of 6/7x are again mandatory. Shallow and light two-fly nymph rigs are picking up plenty of fish too. Mysis shrimp are always relevant immediately below the dam. Egg patte ..read more

Colorado River – Flow: 2,140 cfs/Glenwood Springs Conditions: Fall is here and the fishing is righteous! Whenever a summertime client asks us when the best fishing is, we always reply with November or March. November is the month for spawning browns and whitefish which makes the skittle (egg) bite as good as it gets. At times, they outfish anything else and fish will move feet to eat them. Speaking of moving feet – the streamer fishing has really picked up this past week too. Due to recent stockings of 6-10″ rainbows, the better streamer bite has been using larger flies to eliminate the abund ..read more

Crystal River – Flow: 58 cfs/Redstone, 98 cfs/Carbondale Conditions: Fall is here and fishing has picked back up with November yielding the best fishing of autumn. BWOs are the main hatch along with a smattering of midges. Look for the best fishing to take place in the afternoons and evenings as the morning hours are chilly. The water is low and clear at this time of year thus being as stealthy as possible pays big dividends. Egg patterns are always a must-have in November as this is THE month for the brown trout and whitefish spawn. The streamer bite has been good too. Just be sure to stick ..read more

Roaring Fork River Flow: 146cfs/Aspen (Jaffe Park), 396cfs/Basalt, 658cfs/Glenwood Springs Conditions: Fishing has certainly picked back up with the cooler water and air temps! We’re in that special summer to fall overlap where the fish are back to feeding more aggressively after the heat of August and the first half of September. As water flows decrease so too does the size of our flies (excluding streamers) as BWOs are now the main hatch. The fish seem to know that winter is not too far off and have the feed bag on. Mornings are on the slow side with the best fishing taking place during aft ..read more

Flow: 175cfs/below Ruedi Reservoir Conditions: It’s been no secret lately that the Frying Pan has been fishing ridiculously well. The flows have finally come down with green drakes/flavs, PMDs, BWOs, and caddis all hatching in good numbers. If anything that’s the hard part right – fishing through the overlapping hatches. Crowds are heavy still with the lightest pressure being in the evening hours once the midday hatches have subsided. Light tippets of 6x and 7x are standard fare right now. Look for the majority of rising fish to be seen from 11-4. Evening rusty spinner falls hinder on having ..read more
