Homes on Toronto Island

I know it's a real rarity for a house on Toronto Island to come up on the market. I understand that you are buying just the house and you have to lease the land from the city, and a lottery system is held for potential buyers dur to the demand. I always thought it would be cool to live on the Island, especially seeing that skyline perspective. I am just wondering if there are anyone here who lives there or knows of someone who does? Besides taking a feiry to get mainland and the... Read more ..read more

Maximum number of elevators?

I'm living in a new condo that's still partially under construction. We've got a real issue during the day with trades using the elevators and having to wait ages. We have 3 elevators but one of them has not been working for a couple of weeks. One of my neighbours told me that when she complained to the superintendant she was told that Ontario law does not allow 3 elevators to be running until a certain amount of the building is occupied. That sounds like a load of doo doo to me, but I'm... Read more ..read more

Condos with Full Size Kitchens & Gas

I am currently on the lookout for a 1 bedroom 1 bath condo for purchase. It seems like I rarely come across units with normal sized L shaped kitchens with peninsula counters, gas cooking, and a full sized fridge. For some reason, buyers have accepted the silly trend of paying over ask for poor quality cubbyhole kitchens along one wall with a built-in glorified minifridge. The last thing I want to do is rip apart a new built-in kitchen just to add a proper sized refrigerator. While not... Read more ..read more

Got a letter in the mail today from "Canadian Condo Rebates". Never heard of them. They are writing to me "in regard to your condominium rebate eligibility." Sounds like some sort of phishing scam. Especially when you go to the website condorebates.ca. Anyone know anything about this ..read more

Hello All I wanted to get the thinking and experience of those who live in a condo and either have a private facebook group, or administer a private facebook group on behalf of the residents. By private, I mean not sanctioned by or operated on behalf of the condo corporation by the PM. We've had one at my building since the building was built. I started the group, and am the admin. We have about 75% of the owners/tenants as members. In our group we talk about neighbourhood events... Read more ..read more

`If you push me around, I'll push back' Sep. 28, 2006. 01:00 AM LAURIE MONSEBRAATEN FEATURE WRITER At "almost" 5 ft., 8 in., Vaughan developer Silvio DeGasperis is not a large man. But the fast-talking, well-dressed Italian immigrant casts a large shadow in Greater Toronto. Surveying more than two dozen subdivisions and scores of underground sewer and water projects from a helicopter, DeGasperis' pride is palpable. So is his determination. "I'm a relatively small player," he says. "But... Read more ..read more
