Hi,
Anyone got any ideas for joining the wall to roof, need an upstand of some sort.
The wall isn’t straight and not in a good state of repair to chase into.
What options do I have? Or has anyone seen similar.

Hello,
I am posting here about some work needed to my roof. I was given three options by a roofer and I’m not sure which one to choose.
The problem is that a lot of my ridge tiles are loose. They are not broken though, except the central vent tile which is cracked. I have discussed with a local roofer who has good customer reviews, and he has given me three options: install a dry ridge system for £1,800, re-bed the ridge tiles for £1,500 or re-point them for £650 (these prices are inclusive of the replacement of the vent tile and of replacing a couple of other broken tiles on the side of my ro ..read more

Hi. I joined today to try to gain some views/advice from those more knowledgeable than me (I know nothing about building work) on some work that I'm having done to create a first floor extension on the side of the house.
The builders have almost finished the work and are currently doing the inside. From the outside, I don't feel that the ridge work is of a good quality. They have rebuilt the roof over the extension (on the right) and added new ridges to the top of the house. The ridge colours are very different from the tiles so it draws your attention to them, a ..read more

Good evening all,
I thought I would get everybody’s view on lifting trusses.
We are building a bungalow and are looking at ordering the roof trusses.
We were wondering if we need a crane to lift the trusses in place or if we could lift them in place by hand.
The site has some trees close by and limited access so maybe problematic using a crane.
We are also not sure what would be the cost of using a crane.
The trusses are room in roof trusses and measure 9.3m long and 3.8m high and weigh 116kg each.
We were thinking maybe 4 or 5 people could lift them into place if we don't use the crane.
I wou ..read more

Hi All,
We're soon to have the roof replaced on our house.
The roof is slate 24" x 12" (current slate roof is 100 years old)
We'll be using the existing hip and ridge tiles.
We live in Manchester so it rains a lot!
Is Flexim Roof Putty a good alternative to cement mortar for bedding the ridge / hip tiles (especially if there's issues with rain)?
What are the pros and cons of Flexim Roof Putty?
How long does it last on the roof?
It would be good to know.

Hi There,
We're soon to have our slate roof replaced.
The current slate roof is 100 years old. House was built in 1923.
The old slates are being removed and replaced with new slates (300mm x 600mm, 7-9mm thick)
Our roofer has suggested using stainless steel slate hooks (grade 316, black coated).
He feels they're easier to install, hold the slate more firmly and slates can replaced more easily.
Our roof has numerous valleys and quite steep pitches down the gable.
Which would be the best option to hold the slates firmly in place for another 100 ye ..read more

Please could any experienced roofers out there answer my questions below.
1. Photo 1. For someone to re mortar the side of the roof where it joins the house next door on the left hand side. This is leaving everything as is and just redoing the mortar all the way up. as a rough estimate - Is this a 1 man or 2 man job? Time needed, half a day, or a day maybe?
2. Photo 2. Where the felt was worn at the bottom of the roof, permanent has been fitted. There is a gap between the pieces of permavent left side cream bit, then 6-8cm gap, then black ..read more
