I am struggling to keep up with a steady flow of jobs and new and old clients. I am looking for a better way to organize everything, and the information that comes with it, than a google doc or writing it down in my 5 different notebooks. Think I got screwed...Black Membrane Roof on Rotted Wood
Talk Roofing

Hello - I know nothing about roofing and take ownership that I should have consulted more experienced contractors for quotes. The details don’t matter, except I now have a new black membrane roof that was installed on 3 other layers of roofing on a 7,000 square foot commercial building (other layers include metal, tarps, wood, random stuff). Now that I have pulled out the drop ceiling and insulation my architect says I need to have a structural engineer come. All of the underside of the wood is original and rotted from where it leaked for so long. There are two steel beams thank goodness. But ..read more

Hi, Location: SE Florida, less than 1 mile from ocean House: Built in the 50s Roof: Concrete Tile The previous owner installed a metal cover over roof fascia to hide rotted fascia, it was missed by inspector and myself. The gutters and downspouts are in good shape, the gutter nails are starting to come off where fascia rot is present. I’m planning on replacing damaged rotted fascia and roof soffits. How do I go about replacing drip edge that is rusted and is literally breaking apart at the the seam? I’m not looking to replace the roof at this time. Also, is there a product that can be used ins ..read more

Help! Did my roofer install the outside corners incorrectly?
Talk Roofing

Hi, all. I just had a re-roof done yesterday. The outside corners seem to have considerable overhang. Some even measuring 1.75" from the drip edge. I’m not a roof expert, but I’ve never seen this done before. They also folded the shingles underneath Please see pics. I have a hipped roof, if that helps. Also, though this may not be a big deal, they applied one of the ridge lines off center by about a 1/2". Is any of this standard or typical? Or, did they do a sloppy job? Thanks in advance for your help! 1 post - 1 participant Read full topic ..read more

Hi, all! I need your help with color selection, please! My 70 year old roof has seen better days and needs replacing. I’ve narrowed it down to two selections - GAF Timberline HDZ Barkwood and GAF Timberline HDZ Hickory. The house is currently white with gray trim. Which do you all prefer and why? Or, do you have any other color recommendations? I have to stick with GAF for availability. I need to decide by Monday morning Thank you in advance for your help! 7 posts - 4 participants Read full topic ..read more

Our roof was installed last week. Seeing a few “lumps” for lack of a better term. Close to front gutter. Is this normal? It’s December here in Southern California, and some rain is going to hit next week. Thanks in advance! 1 post - 1 participant Read full topic ..read more
