I am being told the reason the existing torch down (about 10 years old now) is starting to lift from the drip edge is because the existing drip edge is for hot mop applications. Apparently when the original hot mop roof was replaced with torch down, the original edging was left in place.
1. Is this true ?
2. Does a properly installed drip edge press against the fascia board or is there a small air gap (1/8-1/4") in addition to the angled lip of the drip edge ?
Thank you in advance for...

I wasn't sure if this should go in Roofing or Walls & Ceilings, but I've had a leak that just started in the back room of my house that used to be an enclosed porch. Is this a roofing issue? Any idea where a contractor would start in terms of determining how to repair this leak? Trying to understand where the problem might be and how extensive of a repair this will be. Thanks for any opinions ..read more

Pictures here
1950s house with detached garage and I'm writing here about the garage. Very likely the original garage siding that is in rough shape. At some point before I owned it, the garage was covered in creeping vines. I live in a snow state so there is 2-3 feet of snow along the bottom of the garage every year during the winter. Some of the lower boards appear to be rotting. Is it worth trying to save this siding or should I tear it all off and go with something like...

Hello to All,
I am getting ready to re-roof our house in the next few weeks. We have an old farm house with soffiting on the gables of the original house, but there is no soffiting on the gables of an addition to the house. I have been trying to find out whether it will be worth the effort to add soffiting to the addition while I a putting on the new roof. I am thinking that the soffiting would provide more protection (against sunlight and rain) for the windows below. Can anyone give me...

Hi All,
I removed some eaves troughs, which I think are also called "Gutters" for painting. The drip edge extensions were touching the tops of the troughs, making it all but impossible to reach in for cleaning maple leaves out. I wish to lower the troughs for access, so I puttied the old screw holes closed.
Checking on line for proper pitch for the trough revealed many answers. 1/16" per foot, 1/8", 1/4 and even 3/8" per foot.
What's the correct pitch per foot or meter?
Thanks For...

Hello - We are looking to re-route our upper roof's gutter onto our lower roof's gutter with downspouting. Currently the upper gutter dumps water through its outlet directly onto the roof below and this is causing some wear on the asphalt shingles, so we are looking to install down spouting that will carry the water to the lower gutter.
Below is a picture from the side of what this currently looks like for your perspective, you can see the water exiting on the right-hand side of the gutter...

Just had a heavy rain and I went outside during the rain to observe the gutters.
On one side of the house the rain was falling over, and through it seemed, the end of the gutter run. Seems to be a couple problems - the sealant on the end cap is broken, and also probably during heavy flow the downspout hold is not big enough to handle a heavy load (maybe it's blocked but there are zero trees over this side of the roof so I doubt it).
But... at a higher level problem solving perspective, I...

Hello,
I bought a house earlier this year and roof was replaced by previous owner in 2022. There is a leak at chimney flashing and the previous owner will not tell us contractor who replaced the roof per agent. A roofing contractor came and looked at it and he said it should be covered by workmanship warranty by person that did the recent replace. Anyone have advice in this situation? There are no permits pulled for roofs and HOA has no records either ..read more

My house was built between 1975-1980, and I am not sure how old this siding is. The previous owner was unable to give any information when I purchased nearly 8 years ago.
The siding used to pop up from time to time, and I could just pop it back on and it would stay for months at a time. Last year it would do it a handful of times, and now it pops back off soon after every time.
Since we've been getting some heavy rain the last week or so, I've done a very temporary "fix" of using some...
