Our firm had the privilege of creating a tablescape for the annual social and festive affair that is the ,New York Botanical Garden's Orchid Dinner once more this past week. This is our second year in attendance and we were personally invited back again last February by Fallon Sullivan, the Associate Director of Special Events and Projects at the NYBG and the event's Design Chair, Steele Marcoux, who is the editor of Veranda Magazine. And while there were 20 of us last year-Floral and Interior Designers - creating fantastical tablescapes and settings at the Plaza Hotel, there were a total of 4 ..read more

Gallery Wall Goals | Creating An Artful Mix

This week we partnered with Desenio.com to create and build our own gallery wall. We choose our breakfast nook. As you can see below, it definitely needed some love. I’ve been living in my house since 2017, but other than moving in my banquette bench from my old house I hadn't done much to this corner. Before: As you can see we have some oddly angled walls here but not much color. Because I had painted the whole house a very light neutral gray before I moved in, painting was not on the menu. Color is my jam so the goal was always to mix colorful art and furniture with a neutral base - in othe ..read more

Veni Vidi Vici! And just like that, it’s a wrap.. As a designer I am used to tight deadlines and hiccups during the renovation process but I must say we pulled out all the stops just in the knick of time to see our vacation apartment to completion. As the "client" on this project I am happy with every space and the design choices are tailor made for me and #TheBabe. My goal is always the same for my design clients. The mark of a good designer is one who can capture your individual sense of style and make it functional for how you want to live. Your living spaces should emote and the feelings ..read more

In life there are or will be many Tim Gunn ”make it work moments.” And just like in fashion, design is at the precipice of several of those moments. Global shipping delays have impacted all facets of the supply chain and the ,One Room Challenge™️ spaces are not exempt. Week 6 feels like a lost one, a la Lauryn Hill. But we are thankful for the small victories that made a big impact this week. So while this week’s post will be short of witty prose, we do have some pictures of the small but mighty progress we made this week on the Chicago Office. Take a look. We prepped the space for primer by ..read more

Crown me Queen and I’ll make you a King. That’s how the story started, in a nutshell. I entered stage left when I happened upon some magical fabric that spoke volumes in culture, history and folklore. I’ve been scheming on a headboard I could make using it for 2 years. And what better time than as a Featured Designer for the One Room Challenge™️, with media sponsor Better Homes and Gardens! So what’s the plan and who’s the queen, pray tell? The lone two rooms unfinished in our vacation home after our epic Spring One Room Challenge (see that reveal here for a recap), was the primary bedroom and ..read more

5 Designer Tricks To Make A Small Kitchen Feel Big
Joyful Designs Studio Blog

When we started our transformation of this tiny, (formerly) L-shaped kitchen, it was closed off from the living area, had low ceilings, little to no countertops, dated cabinetry that was of no real utility, and darkness was its friend. LOL. For the One Room Challenge (Haven't heard of it? You can start (HERE) at the Blog and follow our journey from week to week) we decided to start from scratch and add more function, usable storage, more countertop space and to open up the layout so light could rule the darkness. We also we raised the ceilings where we could. Our efforts resulted in a more op ..read more
