Slightly shocked this week to find a Tory leaflet arrive through my letterbox, normally we are lucky to even get one just before an election but to receive a leaflet in early March is a real shock. What was less shocking was that the leaflet had very little to do with the truth. The main story (fiction?) was focussed on the reasons why the Tory County Council are now cutting our verges in Ipswich. Debbie Richards, our Tory candidate, decided to tell Rushmere residents that the Tories were now mowing our verges after we had refused because our a 'black hole' in our finances. Our Tory candidate ..read more

Homelessness is a big issue throughout the UK, and Ipswich is no different to other similar towns in having such a problem, made worse recently, by more people struggling to pay rent or mortgages and others unable to get the support for mental health issues or substance misuse. In Ipswich, helping people keep off the streets is one of our key priorities and we have been very successful in not only gaining funding from central Government but then using that funding to assist many residents to gain accommodation. Not that you would know that if you have received the latest email newsletter from ..read more

Yesterday, I was given the privilege to speak at the unveiling of a mural to remember a Westbourne Academy pupil, and a  Whitehouse Estate, Ipswich resident, who lost his life in Afghanistan in 2007 Aaron McClure will be remembered by his comrades from the 1st Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment, but also by his friends and family from this close knit part of Ipswich. Well done to his mother, his friends, and the school for keeping his memory alive ..read more

Whilst the Tories rush to ditch the Green Agenda and scrap any promises they made ( in the hope of holding onto a few seats) - Labour run , Ipswich Borough Council - continues to push forward with a plan that will see many of our tenants be provided with sustainable energy solution.   Ipswich Borough Council has this week installed its 500th solar panel as part of its commitment to providing its residents with sustainable energy solutions.   Installed on a home in Maple Close, the news demonstrates the Council’s ongoing effort to use more renewable energy in the tow ..read more

The last few weeks have seen the Tories continue to focus on immigration- or illegal immigration as they would call it, however without addressing the failings in the asylum system. Happy to promote their willingness to accept refugees from the Ukraine and Hong Kong but remaining silent on the Tory Government's  failure to secure a 'safe route' for those who served alongside  British troops in Afghanistan and now wish to flee the Taliban. Here in Ipswich, it seems Tom Hunt, our Tory MP could not be happier, it seems to be his favourite subject and he was quick to jump onto his Facebo ..read more

2022, we thought the COVID crisis was over, and we could hope for better times but the war in Ukraine then a Tory Government in self destruct mode has made this a terrible year for many. But let us hope taht many of us do get the chance to spend the time with their friends and families over the festive period and that in 2023 we get closer to the end of this terrible Government ..read more

We now have a Prime Minister, who has had to sack her Chancellor after just a few weeks in power,  and then appoint a new Chancellor - who has scrapped nearly all her economic plans within 72 hours. Most of the plans he has scrapped are the same plans she won the Tory leadership election on! Must wonder why she is still sitting in Number 10. It would be funny if it was not the fact that her disastrous plans have meant millions will now be playing more for their mortgages, household bills and basic foods. So what do the local Ipswich Tories think? Nadia Cenci, has gone from support ..read more

Save our trees!

Over the last few months, man residents have contacted us about Tory run Suffolk County Council and Network Rail cutting down trees. Ipswich Labour run Ipswich Borough Council have a policy of replacing any tree cut down by planting two new ones in it's place. Unfortunately , Suffolk County Council don't allow for trees to be replaced on residential streets. Often, we as the Borough Council get the blame as the County Council sub-contract to us the inspection of and then felling of the trees. We fully understand that trees many not be suitable to be re-planted in some streets however they c ..read more

On Wednesday, the Tory Group on Ipswich Borough Council proposed a motion asking the Council to lead on the production of a comprehensive knife crime strategy for the town. Who could disagree with that? However the Tory Group knows as well as anyone else, that much of the power to fight knife crime lies with the Suffolk Police and the Tory run County Council. Any strategy we produced would be reliant on the Police and County doing much of the work. They also seemed to forget or not admit that the police struggle at times to carry out their tasks due to underfunding of the service over the last ..read more

A campaign that was based on deceit

The main thrust of the Tory campaign to win County Council seats in Ipswich was based on deceit - even the Tory MP for the town took time off from attaching footballers, to join in - their message was for the Tories as Labour County Council councillor's  had failed to spend their budget given to them for local highway issues.  The Tory Group in Ipswich, had researched very carefully to come up with the figure for unspent budgets, they used social media to say that they would have no problem spending the money if they were elected. But this is the real deceit, if they had req ..read more
