Made In Taiwan | Cookbook Club

We seem to have reached a golden age of Taiwanese American cookbooks in the last few years. I can remember learning to cook in the first few years after graduating from college and not having many places to turn when trying to conjure many of the dishes from my childhood. I tried to ask my own mother, but most of her recipes fell in the grand tradition of “a little of this, a little of that:” hard to understand and harder still to replicate. And of course my limited language skills constrained me to reading recipes that were in English– of which there were very few. It’s no coincidence that ma ..read more

Fima & Noah | San Francisco Botanical Garden Wedding

On a beautifully sunny day, in the middle of the city that Fima and Noah called home, they formalized their vows, signing their San Francisco marriage license as well as their Jewish marriage license, the ketubah, as their family members contributed their blessings to the couple. They had managed to meet at the onset of the global pandemic in April 2020 — on a friend’s zoom party, no less– and they took advantage of the otherwise uncertain time to be able to get to know each other and begin building their lives together. It was such a joy to witness and document this joyous day and this union ..read more

Behold! The start of a whole new year! I set a goal for the entire year, which is a minimum of 15 minutes of movement every day. So we started it off with a January 1st run! Followed up by tacos in the Mission, as inspired by our return from Mexico City just the day before. We brought back this very fun tortilla basket from Mexico City, and I proceeded to put our injera in it and our moo shu pancakes in it… Love an excuse to use these cute tortilleros. Crafting my party invitations from real 45s (7″ records). See the party here. Feels like fall! In January. Another lovely run, this time at ..read more

A Weekend in Truckee

Alex and I usually go up to Tahoe at least once or twice a year. This January, we went up for a long weekend so Alex could go snowboarding, while I lived my lodge life, staying at our Airbnb and working on my wooden mahjong set that I’ve been carving! See a summary of our short little trip below. I grew up in Michigan and have no desire to go back to living in a place with real winters, but opting in to winter for just a few days is great!   We tried a new-to-us place for a quick dinner, Buoy & Trap Seafood Market. Delicious! Would recommend the lobster roll. One of our favorites, S ..read more

Music & Mahjong

It’s funny to look back and realize that it’s only been a year since Alex and I started playing mahjong with all our friends and just over a year since we bought a record player and started collecting vinyls. In that time, these two interests have become such big hobbies in our lives. It was only fitting that I combine them for my annual birthday party this year: my Music & Mahjong Party! I got free 45s from Beaker’s Records, custom-drew some labels, and made record sleeves for them, which I mailed to the guests as invitations. We organized all of our ~100 records that we’ve accumulated i ..read more

What a beautiful setting on a beautiful evening for this wedding welcome party. Katelyn and Max held their rehearsal dinner with their closest friends and family, followed by drinks and a book swap with all of their guests. Take a peek at some highlights below. Welcome party guests were asked to each bring a book that they loved, and then they were invited to go home with a new book by the end of the night. It was such a delight to watch everyone writing in their personalized recommendations and starting all sorts of conversations about their books.   A beautiful evening in Bodega Bay! A ..read more

2023 was such a love-filled year. The fact that I am only now posting this review from Q2 in 2024 is an indication of how abundantly we’ve packed our lives from last year through to now. It was a year filled with travels, including Arizona and Texas for three more ballparks; Jackson, Wyoming for Alex’s birthday; Lake Louise and Calgary for a wedding; LA for another wedding; NYC and upstate to visit our friends’ farm; Portugal and the Canary Islands for our Honeymoon; and Mexico City for a last-minute vacation. In addition, we celebrated our marriage with a springtime wedding in wine ..read more

One week after our wedding, we went right back to Reeve Wines for their members’ weekend. We originally weren’t sure we would attend since we were literally just there, but instead we decided to stay the night in Healdsburg and turn it into a mini honeymoon! It’s always such a lovely time sitting at the Reeve tasting room and looking out at the oaks and vines! This time Chef Chris made some banh mi sandwiches. They also teamed up with SingleThread farms for a little farmstand, as well a mini shop of little vintage goods from Kelly’s collection. And of course there were many wonderful Reeve wi ..read more

Emily & Chris | San Francisco City Hall Wedding

Emily and Chris met almost a decade ago, when Chris asked her out to coffee and she responded by saying she only drinks tea… it turns out that as a Brit he actually just drinks tea too. They were engaged in 2018 and had every intention of getting married in 2020 and doing a grand wedding tour around the world, having receptions for both of their families in London and Shanghai. But of course, that never happened, and after six years they decided to finally just be wed in the simplest manner possible, with two sets of friends as witnesses in San Francisco’s City Hall. Such a beautiful morning t ..read more
