Osho Through the Eyes of Gemini Chat AI – Nityaprem reports on and assesses an experiment

Nityaprem writes: In order to see what today’s hip professionals may find out about Osho, I thought I’d ask Google’s Gemini Chat Artificial Intelligence a few questions about his views. Chat AI’s are built from an enormous text database to have an understanding of language, and can do onerous tasks for you such as independently researching multiple web pages and writing summaries of large bodies of text. Chat AIs are another way to explore the internet, and may well end up replacing search engines! They can also write letters and essays on any subject, you just ask them a question or give th ..read more

The Very Best and Worst of Sannyas News, Volume Two
Sannyas News
by satyadeva

Lokesh introduces his latest compilation… Finally, after several months of work, the second volume of Sannyas News has now been released on Amazon. It was quite a challenge compiling and editing the manuscript, and it was also a lot of fun. On a purely personal level, the work process reconnected me with Osho and the Sannyas movement on certain levels. I have given it my best shot and am pleased with the outcome. I reckon this is a better book than the first one, not only in terms of content but also the way the chapters have been laid out. It wasn’t all smooth sailing. I ran into a technical ..read more

Sannyas and Time-Rich Living, by Nitya Prem
Sannyas News

Nitya Prem writes: “Here’s  an article on the dilemma we all face about how to live as sannyasins in the modern world. We all need to earn a living, but sannyas life needs time too, and so we have to balance these things.” There was a time when there were quite a few Osho meditation centres here in the Netherlands, and Osho seemed to be at the forefront of bringing a new wave of Eastern philosophy to the West. But I think he was also far ahead of his time in bringing the best of Western thinking to the East. It was as if he was a bridge, and there was two-way traffic. It puts me in mind o ..read more

Osho As A Mythological Figure, by Nityaprem
Sannyas News
by satyadeva

Nityaprem explores… So lately I have become interested in mythology, and I’ve started with the American professor of literature Joseph Campbell. Pretty much the first stop of my journey was the television documentary series ‘Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth’, which is now freely available on YouTube in its entirety. I’ll just link the first part of the six part series here, for your convenience: https://youtu.be/pE8ciMkayVM Now it struck me that Osho as an enlightened master is also a mythological figure. He fits the archetype of the spiritual teacher who goes forth, attains to enlighte ..read more

Remaining Loose Like Water, by Ma Deva Uma
Sannyas News

SN has lacked sufficient female perspectives for far too long but here’s one woman’s remarkable story (and her views on SN) from Ma Deva Uma, who lives in London. The first Osho book I read was titled ‘Tantra, The Supreme Understanding.’ That book changed my life forever. It was 1996, and a week after finishing reading the book I handed in my resignation at the London corporate law firm where I had been working for four years. I wanted to be free. In November of that year it was my twenty-seventh birthday. I decided to treat myself by buying a ticket to Poona. I’d never been to India before an ..read more

Sannyas Beyond Osho, by Nityaprem
Sannyas News
by satyadeva

It took me a while to decide to write this, but in the end I thought it’s worth talking about honestly and clearly. Many of the older sannyasins still clearly remember what it was like while Osho was alive, and appreciate the deep marks that he left on our lives. In a way the pages of SannyasNews are littered with people trying to make sense of their existence without Osho, and what we see here is a range of attitudes, I’m sure some enterprising scholar could make an article out of it. Some sannyasins at the time went directly to find a new ‘living source’ of the word and ended up with Papaji ..read more

An Ayahuasca Voyage, September 2023, by Simon D

Simon D writes: For my readers, may I request that you suspend any rational thought or judgements concerning the writing below and allow a sense of enquiry and mystery to my exploration of this voyage of Ayahuasca. In late July my old friend Tim mentioned that he’d heard about an Ayahuasca retreat in Portugal and I too signed up as soon as I could. Ayahuasca a is a plant medicine used in the Amazon for a long while, and there is some medical evidence, although patchy, as to the transformative ability of the drug to help addicts, those with mental health issues deal with past traumas etc ..read more

The Quality of Sannyas News (Or: Was the Past Better?) by Satchit
Sannyas News
by satyadeva

Lately, people have come up with the idea that the quality of SN is down. They have even been searching for a scapegoat to justify their judgement. For me, Sannyas is living relaxed in the Now. So one can ask, why do people compare with the past? Comparing itself doesn’t fit with Sannyas too, I have heard. “Oh, was the past golden?” is something one often hears in the world. But such words should not be mentioned by sannyasins, even if they talk about their good old times in Pune with the Master. Even Jesus said: “Don’t judge!” And the Master said: “Be with what is&nbs ..read more

Appeal for Funds (£45)
Sannyas News
by satyadeva

Clive (who hasn’t been an active part of the SN team for quite a while) has just paid another £45 for site security (part of the deal with the web hosts) for which he should be reimbursed (especially as he went out of his way to do this via a very tricky hospital connection process that took up a lot of time, while waiting for news of the outcome of his partner’s operation). Any contributions would be most welcome, very much deserved. Please forward to: cakass@blueyonder.co.uk   ..read more
