I turned 40 last Sunday, July 16th, 2023.
Here is my annual birthday self-portrait, along with previous years.
We are at Luke’s family home in Brattleboro, Vermont. I’m combing my hair in front of my prized blue flamenco shawl, which is tacked to the front of their garage. I take my time, dirty feet and all, because taking care always comes first.
This is me.

I put together a little video study for ongoing artwork I have been exploring this past year.
I shot the background film footage during my first visit to Cuba, my motherland, in 2015. I’m floating on my back in the same ocean that my mother knew all her life, before fleeing Cuba for the US in the 1970s.
Featured photos:
•passport photo of me at 2 years old
•class photo at 6 years old
•ID photo for my tram pass at 11 years old
•school photo for my junior highschool ID at 13 years old
As the alphabet is being recited in Spanish, interwoven with various field recordings I made during my tr ..read more

Janine & Graham flew me out to Chicago last February to capture their love-note-to-their-beloved-neighborhood winter wedding, which I captured on both film and digital!
They wanted to capture their little slice of life at that exact time in their lives—because life happens so fast. I met up at their apartment, I documented their neighborhood as we walked to their local plant sh ..read more

Part 2: Cailin & Lucas’ Wedding (Japan) ?? Shot in FILM + DIGITAL!
Today I share our 2nd day together in Japan, where I photographed their spiritual ceremony at the Munakata Shrine and reception dinner at Nonoan (Fukuoka, Japan). We even stopped at Lucas’ family home in between, to change into shiny party clothes before joining a feast amongst close family. This was the first time that both sides of their families were meeting each other, and I captur ..read more

Clockshop, in partnership with Los Angeles State Historic Park, announces a new artist commission from LA artist Sarah Rosalena, For Submersion. This temporary public artwork will be installed, and if rainfall permits, submerged, at the Los Angeles State Historic Park watershed from January 15, 2023 – May 28, 2023.
Before settler colonization, LA State Historic Park was the floodplain of Paayme Paxaayt, the Los Angeles River, that supported Tongva people and wildlife. For Submersion recalls the LA River’s importance by honoring its history as an ancestral pathway. The medi ..read more

Clockshop presents a new series Dreaming Land Back into Reality, an exploration of the intersectional movements that work to pave pathways to the return and stewardship models of stolen land. Community-led campaigns working with governmental partners have lent a renewed momentum to the return of land to Indigenous, Black, and other communities of color in California. In this series, we will discuss collaborative approaches that promote interconnection, advocacy, mutualism, and land stewardship to foster the climate resilient future we need. We turn our attention to the nat ..read more

I traveled to Japan ?? in December for the first time to document a wedding client’s ceremony & immediate family who still live there. Afterwards I spent 2 weeks taking medium format film photos & being an outsider in a beautiful, new land.
I made myself a promise in 2022. To shoot as much film as I did 20 years ago, but more importantly, to shoot for myself. For play. For self-confidence. To feed my big curiosity. I wasn’t going to try to “do anything” with it, no enterprising plan was attached, or grand conceptual project was researched. I just wanted to get back to the very ..read more
