Hi everyone, new to the hobby here. I set up a 5 gallon planted tank about three weeks ago and I'm planning on getting a wild type betta, I live in SEA so they're pretty easy to find, my only problem right now is what betta to get. More info on the tank: • 5 gallons • 9-watts, 900 lumens light • Plants - Pothos, Salvinia, Crypt (brown & green), H. Polysperma, Water wisteria, hornwort, and adding banana lilies too • pH at 7, but planning on lowering it down further • no filter sadly • 5-... Need help with choosing wild type bettas ..read more

Normally I'm very careful about making sure he's not near the siphon, but I was trying to get in the corner and he just swam right up the tube. Luckily I was able to realize quickly so he only spent a couple seconds in there and didn't get stuck or anything, but I'm still worried about him. He's swimming alright, but could the shock or suction from the tube have caused any harm? I'd appreciate any insight ..read more

Hello! It’s been quite some time since I’ve been here Thought I’d post an update on what I’m keeping. I don’t have as much as I used to, most of my wilds are long gone. However I do have a pair of macs( though nowhere near as interactive as Bertha’s and Nova were) no fry as of yet. No more ocellata, however I do have a pallifina pair. The male is the grandson of my bog boy, who I can’t recall if I posted here or not. He’s a great father. I also have a group of albis I have only a... Catching up ..read more

Hi, I have 2 male bettas that i'd like help identifying the morphs/breeds(?) of, and whether they're anything special or just general ornamental. I'll upload photos sometime tomorrow. The first betta's name is Bob and I purchased him from a LFS in august of 2022 so he's probably like 2 years old by now? The second's name is Slushie and I purchased him as a baby, like, probably 8 weeks old, from a big chain pet store, in september of 2023 so he's still under a year old. Yes they are in... Over the last 3 weeks my Betta hasn't been acting normal. He sits mainly on his leaf (on his side) or at the bottom, again on his side, maybe head tilted up towards the top of the tank. The test parameters are all good and have been for months. At most the tank has had a persistent green algae bloom that won't seem to go away, but also isn't worsening. The water is cloudy-ish with it. Water changes, cleaning, etc hasn't been able to resolve it. The albino pleco in there has been happy with... Hello, I got my Betta Hermes a year ago. It has all been great for a year. But this month, Hermes got Popeye on right eye. I treated him with regular water change and kanaplex. Right eye healed, left eye got swollen. Now, the left eye swelling has gone down but is not gone out yet. And there are three spots on his face. Pics attached. I don't have any insurance and Hermes was a present. Please help. What can I do to help him ..read more

I am a fish nerd and normally I would solve my own issues, but I have a reef tank and I’m not used to freshwater fish problems. My teacher has a Betta fish (her name is Del) as a classroom pet—I don’t watch the fish all the time, but I like checking him occasionally. My teacher told me that recently, Del has been floating constantly at the surface and can hardly get down halfway to the bottom of the tank. I immediately pegged it as a swim bladder issue. He also has a clamped dorsal fin and... My teacher’s Betta has a swim bladder issue ..read more

Greetings all, first time poster here, recently got back into the fishkeeping game after a years-long absence. This is my 36 bowfront. The only fish in here are a school of 13 black neon tetras (the Tankmob)and a female half moon betta named Ruby. These were all in a 20 long, recently moved to the new 36 about 2 mos ago. Water params just fine, one HOB filter and two sponge filters, everybody chill with each other. But with a newfound 16 gallons, i wanted to add another fish. So i tried a...
