Dear Resurrection Families, First off, I just wanted to thank you for the gift of your children blessing our community at Resurrection Catholic School. It has been a challenging year in a myriad of ways, as we have been affected by many of the issues that are affecting our schools, both public and private, around the nation. And yet, as a staff we continue to be inspired by our work due to the gifts, talents, leadership, and faith your children bring to school each and every day. Despite the challenges, we have been able to see growth in a lot of ways this first semester. We have seen tremendo ..read more

It was June 1, 2021 when I visited Resurrection Catholic School for the very first time. I had only heard of Resurrection Catholic School just the week before when I received an email promoting their fundraiser “Sips for Scholarships”. It was an “ordinary” email and by that, I mean it was one of 100s I had received that week. Nothing too fancy but straight to the point. It’s surprising that I had never heard of RCS before after spending so much time in KCK serving on the board of El Centro for 9 years. Regardless, I read the email, found out what the cause was – raise money for the Catholic sc ..read more

A little over six years ago I had the opportunity to meet with Mrs. Higgins, the principal of Resurrection Catholic School at the time. As she shared information about the school and discussed me joining the Board of Trustees, I remember her saying “RCS is a special place. I am not sure how to explain it, but you will see what I mean.” It wasn’t long after that meeting that I was in the school and we discussed the growth mindset learning approach, and I spent the day observing the classrooms. I remember watching the STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts & Math) class doi ..read more

Dear Resurrection Community, Thank you for another great school year at RCS. After finishing my second year as principal here at RCS, I am constantly reminded how blessed I am to be part of this community, and how blessed the community is to have this school in the heart of KCK. This year was a tremendous one as we started to put three school years affected by the pandemic behind us. We designated St. John Baptist De La Salle, the patron saint of teachers, to be our saint of focus at the beginning of the year, and we ensured that before every prayer we reminded students “to remember that we ar ..read more

Last Friday, Resurrection students had the opportunity to display many projects that they have been working on all semester, or even all year, in the gym for the whole school to see during our second annual Student Showcase. Each grade level had at least one project that was celebrated. Middle School Science teacher, Mary Turner, displayed her 7th graders’ Science Fair projects. 6th, 7th and 8th grade students showed off their Project Lead the Way Projects which they have been hard at work at all year long with Mr. Hladky. 8th graders created Apps of their very own that younger students were a ..read more

Friday mornings at Resurrection, the 2nd floor of our building is bustling with 8th graders getting ready for the day. Chatting up a storm and making sure they have everything they need from their lockers. They sport class t-shirts they fundraised for with their last names and class motto on them, as they hurry to their homerooms to start their learning for the day. The countdown to graduation is something that they have been so excited for, but at the same time, has led them to slowly realize the reality of leaving the doors of RCS. The 16th graduating class of RCS comprises of 37 bright and ..read more

Dear Resurrection Community, As we prepare for Thanksgiving and the Advent Season we have focused our classroom counseling lessons on Gratitude and Thanksgiving. As a counselor and parent, I have made it a habit to start each day thanking God for my blessings; and end each night with my family sharing something that we are thankful for. I count the RCS community as one of my greatest blessings. The children and staff that walk these halls are incredible reminders of God's goodness, grace, and love. Each student is a unique child of God who brings something truly special and valuable to our sch ..read more
