September is widely celebrated as Pet Health Insurance Month. Not everyone is familiar with pet insurance and its benefits or the huge relief that a client feels when met with a large bill. The following are some benefits to having your pets insured: Allows the pet owner to save money when their pet is injured or ill. The pet owner does not have to make a difficult decision about their pet because their financial situation doesn’t allow them to treat their sick or injured pet. The pet owner can focus on the care and treatment of their pet instead of the stress of how they are going to pay the ..read more

In my previous job, I worked at a local pet store. As the owner of two cats – I thought that my cat quota was filled until I met Oreo! She was housed in the adoption center waiting for her forever home! Unfortunately – it didn’t look like that day was going to come as she was slated to be euthanized. I couldn’t have that happen! Oreo was a healthy, 5-year-old and a fluffy black and white beauty with a lot of love to give! She has been part of our family now for the past 9 years. She loves to cuddle, fight with her brothers and play with her catnip mice! She rarely answers to Oreo – as names li ..read more

Rescuing a pet can be one of the most rewarding experiences in our lives. We accept them into our homes and hearts, and in return, they offer us unconditional love and companionship. For me, rescuing a 12-year-old cat was one of the greatest experiences. Several years ago, I had decided that I wanted to get a cat. I was looking to adopt a kitten and had been searching for local classifieds and through the local shelters for one. It was during this time that an old, scruffy cat had been brought into the clinic I work at by a client. She was as a stray. They estimated that she was about 12 years ..read more

Here is my story of a beautiful obnoxious mix of goodness dog named Sport. I wish I could tell you that I had this dog since a puppy, but that isn’t the case. Sport came into my life when I met my husband; Sport was his for seven beautiful years before I came into the picture. But, I will tell you something, the first day I met Sport we had an instant connection. His heart belonged to me as mine belonged to him. My husband often joked that I only stuck around for Sport – I guess he will never know! As the years passed, Sport was there for me through schooling, life changes, departing loved one ..read more

Take Your Cat to the Vet Day

It is a common misconception that cats, especially indoor cats, don’t need to see a veterinarian as often as dogs. While cats are typically quite self-sufficient, they are not free from illness, pain and should be seen regularly by someone with a trained eye to spot these signs early. Cats are notorious for hiding signs of pain and illness very well, so it is a good idea to have them seen by your vet yearly. Your vet can spot things such as arthritis in ageing cats, ear and eye infections, and dental issues, to name a few examples. While indoor cats may require fewer vaccinations than an outdo ..read more

The month of September is marked as Animal Pain Awareness Month for pets. It is a month to educate you on the signs and symptoms related to pain awareness in your pet’s health. Pets are our family members, but unlike our human family members talking to them and understanding how they are feeling can be challenging and hard. Pets show signs of them in pain and discomfort much different than us; often, our dogs suffer in silence. Sometimes it is hard to understand or recognize. Here are some signs to help you understand if something more is going on with your animal, such as pain. Antisocial or ..read more
