It may be the spooky month, but if you smell something scary in your cat or dog’s mouth, that stink need to be treated. According to Dr. Dani, pet dental health is linked to several other diseases, including heart, liver, and kidney conditions. Keeping your fur kid’s teeth and gums healthy is not just about a sparkling smile and fresh breath, it's about maintaining their overall health and quality of life. (Originally posted August 25, 2017) A natural disaster is a stressful event for pets and people. Unfortunately, Kelowna has been plagued by floods and fires this year, and the wild weather is showing no signs of abating. If you do need to evacuate, a little preplanning, such as knowing where you will go if evacuated, can help enormously. Having supplies from home makes uprooting much easier on your pet, so pack a grab bag with pet care essentials. Download a Packing List for your Emergency Pet Plan here.   Now that he's back settled into practice, we thought we would ask Dr. Jason to reflect on his five month sabbatical trip.    You took care of five fur families while you were traveling, in several different countries. What was your favourite pet to housesit?  Although Tom the Italian cat will always be dear to us, Sibi, the huge 12 month old male Irish Wolfhound we babysat in France was our fav. His sweet nature, huge presence and attentiveness reminded me of Tully, our beloved late wolfhound and Ragna, our current, (relatively little) wolfhound girl. We love the relaxed ..read more

After finishing up our house sit in Cambridge, we headed by train back to London and hopped a quick flight to Marrakech, Morocco. This was my second time in Morocco, Arnica’s third, but our kids were there for the first time. Marrakech is a lovely place to visit and Morocco is very tourist-friendly. The weather was lovely, not too hot and very sunny and dry for January. This was a stark contrast to the wet, cool, dark weather in England. Our arrival describes the top hospitality we experienced for two weeks. An airport taxi took us to our riad, a traditional city house in the old part of town ..read more

Top nutrition for humans' best friends Do you want your best friend to live a long and healthy life? Nutrition is the best preventative medicine. These opportunistic omnivores have evolved to live with us, begging with their cute eyes and eating our leftovers for millennium. Because dogs traditionally ate their humans' geographically-based diets across the globe, and because they evolved for specific jobs, their nutrition needs vary slightly ..read more
