Hi Everyone! I'm traveling to Amritsar this summer to do some research at the Partition Museum, and I have a grant which will cover the cost of my hotel (up to $150 USD per night), so I am not paying out of pocket. It's my third or fourth time in Amritsar, and in the past I've stayed at Ranjit's Svaasa. I tend to prefer homestays or boutique hotels when I travel, but given that I'll be there in July, I'd love a pool to relax in at the end of the day. I was going to book the Taj Svarna, but then I saw The Earth by Windham, which looks more my style and is closer to the action (the temple and mu ..read more

Hi all - I looked for a post about this but couldn't find one. Does anyone know of a fast-track arrival service in Delhi that gives access to a faster immigration line? A look at the services online all seem to indicate they don't or can't guarantee access to a fast immigration line. I'm asking b/c the last time I was there with an e-Visa that line took FOREVER. Thanks ..read more

Just to be different - an Ahmedabad hotel question

I'm racking up visits to new cities. Last month Amritsar, next week Ahmedabad - where I've been offered the Crowne Plaza or the DoubleTree. Neither has a FT profile. I'll be there for a week so I'd like to get it right - any comments (even if they involve insisting on another hotel) ? I'm guessing both places are comfortable, and both fit my status-driven choices, but I value properties where there are things to do and see close by, and places to see/eat at. Cheers, Ian ..read more

I've read the following in other threads: C. International to International transfer After landing look for the board saying "International Transfers" (DO NOT go through immigration). 1. If you are on a single ticket and already have boarding pass in hand with "DT" (Direct Transfer) printed on it, walk past the transfer desks and go through transit security. Then you can proceed to the departure lounges and gates. Note: if your boarding pass does not have "DT" printed on it, you need to talk to the transfer desk, otherwise the I-I security checkpoint will likely not let you through and send ..read more
