Training Race turns into main event The Metsjövidda fjäll Race is a 320km race that starts right here in and around our Kennel. Usually it is a training race to prepare our and others teams for the upcomming races of the season, but with all other big races cancelled this year, the Metsjövidda fjäll Race was the main event. Due to bad snow and ice conditions it had to be moved several times, and with a big snowstorm just days before the race took place Petter and his helpers were out long hours every day before to prepare the 320km trails for the race. But the work was worth it and the 6 parti ..read more

Resting on the Trail

One of Petters favorite tool to use in long distance races is resting on the trail. In the races the distances between the Checkpoints are not always the same and can vary between 60 and 130km. Different teams will choose different strategies, and Petter himself is switching it up a bit every year. For example this years Finnmarksløpet the distance to the first checkpoint was 132km, the distance to the second 101km. Some teams broke up the 132km in two runs and went the 101km in one go, other teams made it in 3 even runs of 78km, not resting in the first Checkpoint at all. Petter and some othe ..read more

Petter Karlsson (left, 6-time Champion) and Matthias Schärer (2021 Champion) after last years race. Foto: Javier Marven   The 320km Metsjöviddafjäll Race is always an important one as the Mushers get to see their teams in a real race for the first time in the season. Last year Matthias Schärer made the unthinkable possible and beat 6-time Champion Petter Karlsson on his own turf. In an epic 120km run to the finish line they battled it out hard but swiss newcomer Matthias put down a new record time and beat swedish superstar Petter by 5 Minutes. Can Petter get revenge this year and will he ..read more

From the 8 teams that started out on the 580km expedition on Thursday 25th of March 2021, 5 teams got back home 3 days and some hours later on Sunday, while the rest had to scratch either in Vuoggatjålme or Ammarnäs. But in the end all the dogs and mushers participating had a great time and got back home safe and healthy. The expedition can be considered successful, as we learned a lot about the trail, the area and the mountains we plan on puting up a real race next winter, but also a lot about ourselves and our dog teams.   The weather As one could expect when driving through the mountai ..read more

What an incredible finish of Finnmarksløpet 2018!! It was touch and go for a while after a terribly timed accidental breeding (is there ever a good time for an accidental breeding?), but somehow Petter managed to defy the odds, get the team moving again after a gruelling 1200 km and pull off a last minute victory. Everyone at the kennel is totally delighted and very proud of Petter (and Angela and Leif)’s achievement. With huge thanks to our food sponsor Bozita Robur!   Inlägget Petter Karlsson is the Champion of Finnmarkslöpet dök först upp på PETTER KARLSSON ..read more
