String Rock Painting
I am always on the lookout for new, fun ways to paint rocks. I came across a technique for painting trees that I thought would look great on a rock. This method used a string to create a birch tree trunk. You simply dip the string in white paint, pull the string across the length of the rock, and then move the string from side to side to create the width of your tree trunk. This will create a white trunk with some natural breaks in the color.
We are going to take our 4Ps approach to rock painting for this one. If you are not familiar, the 4Ps are Prime, Pencil, Paint, and ..read more

Melted Crayon Art – Earth Rock
Every once in a while, you just need to try something completely different. I love our easy 4Ps approach to rock painting, but sometimes I want to try something new or use a different medium to create beautiful rocks. Earth Day is coming up soon, so I wanted to make some earth painted rocks, but use something other than paint. After all, earth day is about reducing, reusing, and recycling.
I have seen melted crayons as a crafting project in many different forms. Basically, you need a heat source to melt the wax to it will drip or just melt directly onto the roc ..read more

Painted Easter Rocks
Springtime is quickly approaching, and Easter will soon be here. My house is usually filled to the brim with friends and family to celebrate. Unfortunately, that also means I could have a house full of tired kids looking for something to do. I try to have several activities ready to go for them, including an area for painting rocks.
Many kids will love sitting down with a rock and some paint and letting their imaginations run wild. Others will want a pattern or a picture to follow. I always try to have a few pre-painted rocks on the table to inspire and give them some id ..read more

Forest Animal Painted Rocks
Where I live, the ground is pretty flat and clear. We have trees, but not much that I would consider a forest. My family recently went on a road trip where we drove through a few national forests. The trees were so different from anything that we have in northern Oklahoma. Here the trees are spread apart and can grow big and round. We drove through several areas of forest where the trees were packed together. That resulted in skinny trees that had nowhere to go but up. Those trees seemed to reach the sky and block a lot of the sunlight.
I began to think about the ..read more

Winnie the Pooh Painted Rocks
Some images are just so iconic, they are difficult to replicate. I was in the middle of planning a Winnie the Pooh-themed baby shower when I decided to paint some character rocks to decorate the tables. Now I like to draw, but I am not the best at creating some of those famous characters. I feel like you have to get the drawing just right so it looks like the character you are working with.
I have struggled with many character drawings. There is little room for interpretation with the sketching. But I am a believer that art is for everyone, so I came up with a s ..read more

Fox Painted Rocks
My town has an interesting history with red foxes. I live in a small town in Northern Oklahoma. Our claim to fame is our oil heritage. E.W. Marland formed the Marland Oil Company in 1920. He brought the sports of polo and fox hunting to Oklahoma. The little red foxes they hunted were not indigenous to Oklahoma. They were brought in from Pennsylvania. Now, 100 years later, you still see red foxes in our neighborhoods. All are descendants of a Marland Fox that got away.
The red fox has become an icon in my town. You can drive around downtown and they have a modern-day fox hun ..read more
